Between last Thursday and Sunday I was in Kansas City having the pleasure of watching Curt Schilling give up 9 doubles, 1HR and a single, in Philly to watch Dunn and Howard hit some massive bombs and in PNC to watch Zach Duke pitch a complete game beating St Louis 7-1.
I absolutely love PNC. Beautiful park overlooking the river/the skyline and the Clemente bridge. Sanchez sure looks like he is for real. He can hit, is very athletic and plays multiple positions.
But through it all, Zach Duke was magical...except for some shots by Pujols. He seems to be very well liked by fans I spoke with and they aren't particularly happy that the changes in his mechanics may have impacted some of his performance this year. But if it helps him stay healthy and he can continue as he did Friday night...or close to that level, he has a wonderful future. He somewhat reminds me of a left handed Maddux but with better velocity. Who he really reminds me of is Whitey Ford...but with more velocity. Great fun watching Zach Duke.
Oh, and I didn't see a single "hamburger" on any of the fields. Just my opinion, but if you really appreciate the game and know how hard it is to play, you know the worst player in MLB isn't "hamburger."

Personally, I think you all are taking BeenThere's "hamburger" comment a bit too seriously. It goes without saying that anyone who makes it to the majors has a great deal of talent. But... As fans, you all know that even you don't think some players are very good. since the dawn of sports fans have used words like "hamburger" (well, maybe not hamburger, but you know what i mean) to deride players they dont' like or don't think are carrying their load.

So...

The Cardinals DO have a lot of Hamburgers on the field this year. Just like every other year.

Go Cubbies!!!

Would love to have met you! We trekked on down to the beauteous PNC Park for the first time this year Friday night. I finally got to see "our" Zach pitch, and we sure did pick a good one, didn't we? It was thrilling to see him return to last year's form, and even more thrilling to hear the 30,000-strong chants of, "Duke! Duke!!" after each pitch in the 9th. (He is currently involved in another gem as I type). Did you sense the near-playoff atmosphere that gorgeous evening? Nothing like your team, last place or not, putting it all together on a picture perfect summer night.

You go, Zach!! clapping
