This loss shouldmake us remember that travel baseball and this forum should be for the KIDS...not for adults wanting to bad mouth and bicker back and forth.... Travel baseball and high school baseball is about the kids.... and we just lost a good one...a kid who had aspirations of playing at the next level and had a LOVE OF THE GAME... May we all remember that when we want to be sarcastic on this web site
Thanks to all who sent their prayers.

As I drove to the wake last night I was flooded by emotions of having to face Steves mother and father.
What do you say to a parent? It was the first time in my life that I attended a young persons Wake, let alone a boy I had been involved with. Mt Carmel HS should be applauded for their efforts as the wake was at the school. It was simply the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed. At least a thousand people flooded the lines continually from open to close. A testiment of the type person Stevie was and type people his family are.
I saw St Rita HS players get off their bus in dress code and ties along with many other schools kids and players there as well. Hundreds of teary eyed kids and adults. I overheard while I did my 2 and half hrs in line, a young girl saying that Steves little sister was outside sitting at his second base position and thats when things got tougher for me. As I moved to the front Steve was in his Mt Carmel uniform with his Sparks hat tucked next to him. It got tougher yet.
Couple days before Steve was to go in for his surgery, I was to have a back surgery. I get a text message from him saying," Good luck Coach with your operation". It blew my mind as he would even be thinking of something so trivial at a time when he was going in for open heart surgery, but thats who he was....
He was always the first to shake all the coaches hands after practice or workout, small handshake with a "thanks Coach", because thats who he was..

My heart and prayers goes out to all his freinds and family, all his Carmel Teammates and Coach Hurry.

He will be missed.

Prayers for the Bajenski Family and knowing that God's Mercy will help them all. Also, Coach, Bill, I wanted to say that your presence and the presence of all of those young men will be of more help to the Bajenski Family than you might realize. It is times like that when the memories flood the family and so I'm certain that you were able to help them remember all of those good times on the ball diamond.
Iheartbb

The whole thing is he was an undersized, little dirt bag, and played with heart...

The one thing he had was heart, ironic that it was his heart that got him. He went in to have splints removed from his younger years. One thing led to another, he fought off a virus then nuemonia set in in the lung I was told.

just very sad,

Steven was born with aortic stenosis. When he was an infant, he had surgery to temporarily correct the defect. In 2007, when he was 15 years old, they added a ballooning of the valve. In February of this year, they unsuccessfully tried this procedure again. On July 30th, he had the Ross Konno Procedure done, the same surgery that MLB player Aaron Boone had, and was doing very well. During the early morning of August 1st, he went in to cardiac arrest and coded. Over the next 4 weeks he was in and out of an induced "semi-coma", and on and off an ECMO machine and a ventilator. He developed pneumonia in his lungs.

Below is an excerp from his memory card that was handed out at the wake last night:

Steven Bajenski

I'm thankful for:
- My family
- Our health
- Being together
- The good times
- The soldiers fighting for us and our freedom
- The food that we have
- Being able to live a fairly normal life
- Ability to do things that others cannot
- Good grades
- My family to have the money to pay for my heart surgeries and medication
- For our pets and their health
- My house and protection
- My parents looking over me and to teach me right

Stephen was one of the most wonderful kids from one of the most wonderful families I've ever met in my life. Last night, and the past week has been one of the saddest times of my life.

The Bajenski's are going to pull thru. Their tough, their tight and have the love of such a tremendous support group. Its time for the long road of healing to begin.

Steven's valve wasn't too small for his heart; his wonderful heart was too big for his valve. Budgie, you were the best.

Thank you for sharing that Tuzi.

I know Stevie only through this website and then only for a month or so. And as a result, I know that we live in a far better world for having had Stevie grace us with his presence for even a short period of time.

Mr. and Mrs. Bajenski, your son, the fruit of your love and compassion, has had a positive impact on my life and for that I am grateful. I am a richer man.

He taught us much. Stevie's legacy is abundantly secure.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Bajenski.

Thank you Stevie.

Tuzigoot - thanks so much for sharing these articles and pictures about Steve. This is devastating...
quote:
"His whole life he was undersized," Hurry said of his second baseman. "But he was able to compete at a high level because he had so much heart. We're all hurting, the whole school. You can't prepare for something like this."

Woodrow - that was a wonderful tribute.

Perhaps someone could tell the family about this thread so that after all the people have left their home and they are alone, they will still be able to find some comfort in knowing that people all across this country care and grieve with them. May God bless Steve and his family and friends angel
I obviously don't post much on this site, although I do visit it often. My heart goes out to the Bajenski family, and to all of the Mt. Carmel community. This touched me deeply as I have had 2 friends this year also lose their 17 year old sons. I can't imagine anything worse.

From everything I've read in these posts, Steve was a special young man who made the world a better place. The Bajenski parents should be tremendously proud, not only of Steve, but of themselves. Special people do special things, and the tributes on this site to this special young man are a true indication that this is a special family.

The coaches that have posted on this site are obviously also special, caring people who I would be proud to have my sons play for. Thank you for sharing this.

May God bless Steve and his family.

Haven't been around for a while....very sad to hear about this devastating news. Please pass on my condolences to the Bajenski family, may the lord give them the strength to deal with this.
Sounds like a very special young man who touched many people in his short time here. May his caring spirit and bulldog attitude be a example for us all. I am going to hug my son extra hard tonight at bedtime.

God Bless,
Justin Stringer
