Teams in the Carolina's north to NJ have been buried under snow and ice throgh the first week of practice. Out West rain, rain rain. Many unable to get on a field until today. How much of an impact will this have on the opening weekends? Many of these southern schools especially the mid-majors don't have indoor facilities. Maine on the other hand had their first few days of practice outdoos.. go figure.

Great question coach.

From the standpoint of northern teams traveling south, it, for the first time in many moons, has leveled the playing field. Northern teams traditionally don't get their first outdoor batting reps until opening day, or the day before, whilst their southern counterparts have been playing scrimmages outdoors everyday. This amounts to a huge early season advantage. There's just no substitute for hitting live on a real field against a natural background.
Oh, indeed - my son has been singing the blues. They have had just a single scrimmage so far, and the practicing they have been able to get in has been after shoveling off the tarp, then three hours in 35 degree windy rain.

More sketchy weather ahead, too. Unclear how much scrimmaging they will be able to get in before the first games in twelve days.

Welcome to the life of Northern winter/spring baseball.

No complaints here. We got a 7" dusting of snow today and there's a smile on many faces because when it snows the temp usually gets up in the 20's and you can start shedding some clothes and feel assured that the car will probably start in the morning.

Be safe and smart friends and never take weather lightly

Agree with CADad, our rain is nothing like digging out of snow. We've had three games rescheduled so out of 5 games they have played 2, one shortened to 7 innings because of rain. It's funny to see fans at the game wearing snow parkas and ski gloves to keep warm. Cold wind and rain hurts to the bone. We've had friends come from the midwest and can't believe how cold it can get here in the S.F. Bay Area.

Rob, I thought it always rained in Oregon or least every time I've been up there.

Well, yes, but my son is in North Carolina! And oddly enough, the weather in Oregon has been beautiful. 55 and sunny today.

Yeah Rob, we've been getting quite a bit of rain down in Sacramento, and when I hear from the boys up in Corvallis, all they can tell me is how nice the weather is, and how much they're loving it up there. It's going to be interesting, as it looks like they've got a real good team this year and with all the nice weather they should get out of the gate pretty fast. I can't wait to see them, probably coming up for the UCLA series.
