Doing some research on the head coach regarding an upcoming visit to a DII college next week. I ran across the website ratemycoaches.com and read some posts that has me concerned. Is anyone familar with this website and would it be considered accurate or do players post with an axe to grind? Saw posts from 2009 to date all saying about the same problems.

KC - I probably wouldn't put much confidence in the website. I haven't heard of a single college coach who doesn't have his detractors both inside and outside of the program and as was mentioned, those are the ones most likely to give input.

Its kind of like this. I have 5 managers who work for me. Every year, on supervisory feedback tools, the 1 or 2 angry (and often worst) employees make sure to fill out that survey. Kind of funny, because its pretty obvious by their comments who it is. The happy people fill them in at a far lower rate.

I would instead, if I were you, try and find some other families that you can talk too straight up about their experiences. I think you'll get a much more accurate view in those kinds of conversations.
My dad was a college professor (recently retired) and he and I have talked about "rate my professor". He said that there is virtually no correlation between rate my professor and the internal surveys taken in class. The internal surveys, which every student fills out, presents a much more balanced perspective. RMP is primarily the kids who have a grudge + a few random inputs.

Since Rate my coach has far few entries (at least from the few coaches I looked up), I'd suggest it has even less validity.
KC-

I'm Matt, a co-founder at RateMyCoaches. Thanks for using our site!

Our ratings are fairly accurate because we receive submissions from players who both love and dislike their coach. In fact -- our ratings, as a whole, are positively skewed.

If the coach in question has several ratings dating back to 2009, the ratings most likely reflect what a team feels as a whole, rather than just one disgruntled player.

If you'd like, send me an email at matt@ratemycoaches.com and I can give you a behind-the-scenes outlook on this coach.

Hope to hear from you,

Matt
