I recall there was ~3 mph difference in velo per oz as you go heaver or lighter than a 5 oz baseball. I think it was driveline or Josh Heenan who published it. Hopefully someone with better google skills than me can find the reference.
To add to this, if he’s not working with someone who knows what they are doing, he probably should be.
This for sure. I would also add that if he isn't physically mature and hasn't established a solid base of strength and stability he probably shouldn't.
I read an article once that talked about injury risk w overweight balls and using underweighted balls only as a way to safely increase velocity.
Was that the study done in Japan or Korea? They did one using only underweight balls and had consistent gains without injuries. I’ll see if I can find it.
