Only the fresman were on tonight and we met the fresman coach. Anyways we had to have indoor tryouts in the gym ( stinks!) I wish the weather wold let us go out. We did running and I did good, we did some ball drills and I dont belive it 3 or something balls hit my glove and fell out!!!! And I think one of the coaches were looking. We also did a little hitting.

The only thing I really dont get is that he said that he basicly knows whos going to be on the team with out ever seeing us play. He says he has lots of experiance( he does i think) Hes a pretty old guy.

Im just scared he will not pick me on the first cut cause i droped a few short hops( When me and a partner are right next to each other and fire short hops at each other. But I did make all the real ground ball plays ( and he was watching all of them, even had evryone in line say there last name)

Im just mad because me and everyone else could not pick the ball up in the gym, it is so badly lighted in there!

Morning Mains3,

Hang in there and continue to show those coaches you mean business.
Balls fall out of gloves.
It happens. You are not the first, nor will you be the last.
A good coach knows that.

Show them your hustle and your good attitude. Lots of times coaches will admire a player for their determination and drive to keep trying, especially at the freshman level. They are usually looking for players that are coachable. You dont have to be perfect,..but you have to be willing to learn at the 110% level!!

It's never ideal to have tryouts in a gym,..I understand that. My son had to do it too this year due to snow outside,..but it happens and the coaches should be able to take that into consideration.

I understand your anxiety. Baseball tryout are an exciting time,..but its also stressful.

I want to wish you the very best of luck!!
Let us know how things are going!!

Remember,..a good attitude, alot of hustle, and a willingness to learn and improve can go a long way. Not just with baseball but with life.
BEST OF LUCK!!!!

Were rootin' for ya kid!!
Take a deep breath and have some fun. When you are having fun you are much more loose. Practicing in a gym is crazy but I guess you do what you have to do. My advice would be make sure you dress like a ball player, be there first and be the last to leave.

If the JV and Varsity practice after you, stay and watch (get your homework done). If you can ask the coach for some extra reps.

Pulling for you guy! By the way = what is your idea of pretty old - I probably qualify

Mains, Since I know the coach in question, I can tell you for certain that the advice you are getting here is right on. Hustle your rear end off, stay enthusiastic and stay positive. By the way, if he yells at you some time during the week it is not necessarily a bad sign. Wink

By the way, if you're 14/15 years old he may seem old to you but to some of us he remains a young man!
hey Eh, well I feel that I am one of the better freshman players. (not being cookey)

Don't make any excuses.
Just hustle after the ball if you drop it.
And show no negative emotions.
It shows you can't handle the pressure OK?
What do you feel your chances are of making the freshman team?
