Gary - welcome to the hsbbweb Smile

Your question was a bit unusual in that most inquiries in this forum are about potentially attending somewhere.

I looked up their RPI in Boyd's and it was 162 which places them right in the middle of the pack. They routinely have players drafted. My son has an ex-teammate who is a redshirt freshman there. He was a great high school ballplayer so we were surprised he redshirted and it may indicate the strength of their program. They have a very good ss who was drafted last year by the Indians. They appear to have good stability in their coaching staff. They have one heck of a football team.
welcome Gary - agree a little extra insite can be valuable and if inside info is available that can be interesting too.

I was amazed at the degree of inside info some alum and student fans had when my son played in college.

unfortunatly, I don't have any inside scoops but my son played summer ball with former WVU players & they loved the place

yet again TR makes Frank Martin look like ... Winston Churchill Roll Eyes

Albeit I don't know the whole situation here, but you/he did do your/his research before he decided to attend WVU correct?

Your question and answers give off the impression that you didn't though?

Have you left something out throughout your posts?

Most people know about the program, coaches etc, etc. before they commit to a program. Something just isn't adding up here....
We visited THREE schools Siena, rowan (d3)nice school Coach Ranero , wvu, a FOURTH Juco, Pasco hernado in Tampa wanted him to come down but we never went. Siena made him a solid offer the tuition was HIGH,he did not like the school. I loved it and the Head coach Rossi. WVU would not commit anything unless we did the camp, we did as it was geting late they loved Dan they did come to one of his games after the camp( he hit a hr) as we live on the jersey shore 6 hour drive but did not offer much $$ but the tuition was lower so it was a push. He's happy. I am trying to learn more so I can pass it on!I feel he will get more $ because he can really Play and will prove it on the field.
I did not understand how the whole process worked and I was trying to explain our situation.I now have a better understanding. baseball is not like basketball / football they don't find you unless you are a super stud. I am trying to help other dad's in our small town who don't understand. I hope I am making myself clear? I never enjoyed baseball till my Son started playing now I LOVE the game but am still learning. Ignorance is Bliss.
Gary,
Welcome to the High School Baseball Web. Normally people inquire about a program to get the inside scoop PRIOR to the first visit and use that information in their selection process. Inquiring about the program AFTER your son has committed is like looking at a road map after you have arrived at your destination to determine if you are where you wanted to be. However, seeing how you just registered on the HSBBW yesterday we should take that into consideration and lighten up. Congratulation to your son. I can’t give you much info on the Mountaineers but I do remember when my son signed a few years back at another D-1. He called me during the first semester of his freshman year during fall drills. The first thing he said was: “The head coach sure has changed a lot since he recruited me”. Big Grin

perhaps I missed something

his son arrived at his destination 4 months ago in August, seemed to know where he was and what he was doing. Dad don't want a map he's looking for "Fodor's" travel guide for a perspective that insiders and locals have .... maybe some feedback from a summer travel coach who knows that program's future roster line-up including impending position changes along with details on PT and positions that other recruits were promised ... like was available recently for another program.

maybe some tips from another parent on how to get around the parking permit dilema, or even the best place to take son for a steak during the next visit. should he schedule a visit to co-incide with the Mountaineer balloon festival or not?
best place to tailgate, best room rates, best margaritas, etc.

also, a common discussion here has been about players away at school who seem to answer parents "lengthy" inquiries regarding academics, baseball, time managment, coaches, conditioning, weather, money, and social life with a "one word response" ... fine

except for the part about money, that's two words .. "send more"

you know, stuff like that

btw Doc, "a push" = "a wash" - "break even" - "no gain, no loss" ... eh

Ain't that the truth!!! (not in a bad way though). When we made our recruiting visit, and son was rooming with a Senior, son said, "coach seems like a nice guy",....the seniors response..."just wait".

Now son tells me, "coach hasn't changed one bit, he's still cool and chatty...while there's a recruit around"
