When our son was 7 and playing T-Ball, Willie Mays came to a practice. Willie spent the entire practice instructing about how to play the game. He then spent more time shaking hands and autographing every thing the players could find for him to sign. Truly a day to remember.
This morning, our son, his baseball playing days complete, sent a photo taken last night at AT&T.
It is a photo of our son spending time and watching the game with.. the greatest Giant of them all, Willie Mays.
Sounds like they had a very nice time together. Willie, again, could not have been nicer and more generous with his time.
If there is a baseball player that I view as bigger than life, it is Willie Mays.
Having read and loved "Willie Mays: The Life and the Legend," I looked at the photo of our son and Willie in a very different way than most, especially Willie's picture.
What a life that man has lived.
For those who remember an earlier post of mine from a few years back, you will know what I mean when I say Willie Mays has lived his "dash" in ways that life is supposed to be lived.

'You don't have to be a great player to play in the major leagues, you've got to be a good one every day.'
