General information and questionnaires can be sent to a player of any age, there is no restriction. Smile True recruiting, the "we want you" type letters, are technically restricted until Sept 1st of your junior year. Off campus and phone contacts can start spring of junior year. You can find all this and more on the NCAA website. Here is a link to the DI Manual, look under Recruiting, page 100.

Remember, the restrictions are on the coaches. Players have no contact restrictions and can call or write coaches at any time. Cool

In NAIA you'll hear the phrase there are no rules.

As far as I know they can contact you at any time, but usually only start to talk to you going into your senior year, they might request general information and questionnaires prior to this time, but actual we want you letters, usually doesn't start until you are a senior.
