Well, actually basketball starts at that age, and all NCAA coaches, and Nike/shoe reps who sponsor teams know it and invest in these kids. Baseball is not there yet, but the "signings" of HS sophs and PG's pre-HS showcases, suggest that the trend is to become like basketball. They may not be technically prospects according to the NCAA, but they are being watched. However, the expectation of parents is as usual, way out of line with the reality of recruiting, as they overspend on travel teams, showcases and equipment to gain some real or imagined advantage for their "prospect."

Brod,
Would that statement include you since your profile reads...

"Baseball Dad of a top player interested in recruiting"

???
Not really. I don't think I thought my son was a prospect at 11, nor did I take him to any pre-high school showcases, and he didn't play travel ball until he was 15 and now he's a 17 year old Senior. But touche' anyway...

But as long as we're profiling - and you too perhaps?

Your profile: "A know nothing about baseball dad with a prospect son"
