What are (if there any) the better BBCOR bats? Hear alot about the marucci cat5 and the black - is this just hype? Can one BBCOR be better then another? I know marucci makes wood bats but do they make a good metal or hybrid bat?

My son has tried everything - Marucci Black, Easton Power Brigade, Louisville TPX TPX Z-1000, etc... He thinks the Rawlings Plasma is the best one out there, and even better than the Rawlings 5150 at twice the price!
He chose the Rawlings Plasma because it was balanced, felt the best, looked cool and he liked it...
My wallet thanked him...
Recently, Before a game recently I took a few good hitters aside, and hit with them in the cage, and brought with us a BBCOR DeMarini Voodoo, Marucci Cat-5, Rawlings 5150, Easton Surge, and a Rawlings Plasma... Each player got about 10 swings with each... They all liked the Plasma the best... Unscientific and a small sample, but it was cool to see their reactions...
My son (age 14) has hit quite a few 350-360+/- ft. homers with it... So it can be done with BBCOR!
Honestly, the BBCOR standard doesn’t allow for a lot of performance leeway. So the only way one company is going to be able to draw more customers, is by offering models with different “FEELS” and different “LOOKS”, which may or may not translate into better performance.

Like to get thoughts or a few reviews on BBCOR bats - esp the marucci cat5 and the black
My son swings the Kelley N.fuego. He loves it - but then again - he has pretty much loved any bat I have bought for him.
I have watched a lot of HS baseball this year from Freshmen to Varsity and I see a lot of bats. I have seen homeruns from Rawlings, Marucci, Demarini, Louisville Slugger, Easton - maybe a few others - not sure.
Can't say I have noticed a difference - I think the top lines from most bat companies produce good bats. The Kelley bat my son uses is not popular - company is not widely known outside of Texas (we live in Colorado). However, seems to have as much pop as any other bat he has tried or I see any of the other players use. I think it really comes down to feel and durability.

The High School Baseball Player of the Year in my area of Pennsylvania swung an 2011 Easton Surge. This young man hit for average and power. (.538, 4 HR, 24 RBI). I watched him play and practice enough to form a opinion on BBCOR bats.“It's the archer, not the arrow.” That said, I would still want my son swinging a high quality bat that is comfortable to him. The 2011 Easton Surge can be purchased for about $100.00. This a legit high school BBCOR for a heck of a price.
My son a played JV this year and used a Marucci Black. He loved the bat! However, some brain dead PIAA umpire tossed it from a game because an equally brain dead opposing coach claimed the Marucci Black was decertified. My son carries paper work in his equipment bag to prevent a repeat of that fiasco. Nonetheless, he will prolly be swinging Easton for next spring's varsity try-outs!

I heard rumors floated around that the Marucci Black 33 and 34 are now decertified by NCAA, so high schools will probably so follow if what I heard is true.
I have to throw another reinforcement in there for the affordable Rawlings Plasma. We've had one for a bit, and picked up an Easton XL3 for a really good price not too long after.

Enough pop to one hop a 380 LC gap with a line drive.
