Hi guys, I see a lot of GREAT advice and well experienced people in here. I was curious if some of you guys could tell us what you do or did that gives you the knowledge you have? You don't have to be specific, but I'd love to know what perspective you're coming from... Coach, former coach, player, dad with former experience, dad (like me) with in the process of going to college/pro from high school etc, scout, etc.

What credential could a message board poster possibly need beyond a keyboard with a CAPS LOCK key?

Seriously, TPM is right. When someone says something that catches your attention, read their profile and their previous posts. You'll get a good sense of who's who in the zoo here and can assign each author such credibility as seems right.

Welcome, and best wishes to your son.

fanofgame - I don't think the OP meant any disrespect, and certainly TPM nipped that in the bud!

For anyone that has spent anytime on this site, you quickly realize the lady's know as much about baseball (at all levels) as the men. My wife is case and point although she rarely posts. We have some great lady posters here with great perspectives! We all have our strengths, and for the lady's it is that strong maternal bond with their sons. Trust me when I say nothing got past my wife during my oldest son's recruitment....absolutely nothing.

I don't think this is one of those posts questioning the qualifications/credibility of posters here to offer whatever advice they are giving. I think it is a reasonable question that can help give newcomers here some hope that they will eventually get the level of "experience" that will put them at least close to on par with some of the wisest here among us.

For me, I'm mostly just a Dad. I'm also a former (failed) player, and I did coach until just about a year ago, but felt that with my son then a freshman entering the program I had been coaching in, it was best for him if I became "just a Dad." I still do what I can to support his HS, select, and showcase teams, but try to stay a bit more "behind the scenes."

Everybody here comes with their own unique set of experiences and outlook, and many have a vast array of experiences I can't begin to "compete" with - they've literally seen and done that already, several times over. BUT, to me, the biggest "qualifier" is an ability to listen, absorb what others have to offer, and offer whatever it is you have to offer respectfully and without judging the poster/questioner or others who offer their comments. That this happens most of the time on HSBBWeb is why this is the best site of its kind on the internet, IMO.

To answer the OP...I am a LHP at a Big East school. I have a bachelor's degree in Business Economics with a double minor in communications and sports management from a Division III school that I attended for 4 years. Of those 4, I pitched for the school for 3. Unfortunately, my 4th year was eliminated due to the necessity for Tommy John Surgery, which I underwent last summer.

On the field, I've led my conference in ERA twice, garnered an All-Conference and All-Region Award, and held a 1.65 ERA over 109 innings at my Division III school.

I've also had playing experience in three collegiate summer leagues- the Coastal Plain League, the Valley League and the Ripken League.

I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Sports Industry Management at Georgetown University and will be graduating with said degree this coming May. I am in the process of looking to obtain a position in the front office of a Major League organization. I will be traveling to Nashville next week to intern for the Society for American Baseball Research (www.sabr.org) at the Baseball Winter Meetings.

I've been a pitching coach for an elite 16u travel team that competes nationally at various tournaments throughout the summer and fall. I've also held the title of volunteer assistant baseball coach at a Division III college, assisting in handling the pitching staff. I have had numerous experiences working camps, clinics, private lessons and indoor training facilities for several years.

My resume compilation has largely been crafted over several years with the help of several outlets. Both directly and indirectly, HSBBWeb has been a huge resource for me throughout that time. Without this website, I wouldn't be where I am today and I wouldn't be headed where I'm going.

While exceptionally detailed lol, that's what I was meaning. I'm just trying to get a better feel for who everybody is and what perspective they're coming from. "Clicking everyone's profile" is not exactly an answer. Thanks JH! Best of luck to you!
Hey, I've one of those on my right hip from not getting back behind the pitching screen fast enough pitching to my son when is was just 12yrs old. U-G-L-Y bruise!

What are my credentials?

Taxi driver, Head concierge on road trips, Baggage handler, Entertainment, Human GPS, Lead Motivator, Director of Restuarant services, ATM, and last but not least - Dad.

He throws 87-90... I stopped catching that craziness 2 years ago when I got a bruise like the above picture! That was probably 80! My oldest was batting against a teammate who throws 94... And he got a fastball in the forearm, probably 90-92 mph... He said "I always wondered what it felt like to take a 90+ mph pitch.. And YES, it hurts just as bad as you imagined."
Just a Dad; one who had everything to learn about college recruiting when he discovered that his son, who was passionate about the game, was beginning to attract the attention of recruiters. Fortunately, Bob Howdeshell had recently started this website; so, I just tried to pay attention, keep up, and pass along that which I thought my son might find helpful.

As my son progressed, I remained close to the game and to those who are involved in it in a variety of ways. In the process, my son's passion kindled a passion in me.

My overwhelming motive for remaining active is that I took so very much in those early years and would like to give a portion of that back to the extent that I can.
