I have read a lot on this site and all I can find is that it makes you vulnerable to off speed pitches and you strike out a lot.

Is there any other results that show that the swing may be to long? More pop ups? More ground balls? Pulling it too much or everything goes oppo?

Thanks

The "long to the zone and short through the zone" causes a batter to commit early to hit the fastball, but leaves the batter without balance to stay back should they recognize a breaking ball. More pull (Aim for righty is 2 o'clock, for lefty 10 o'clock)

Years ago, a long swing was one that extended the arms early so bat speed and power were lost in the travel. More spray to oppo (Aim for righty is 3 o'clock, for lefty 9 o'clock)

I find with some of my hitters that a guy with a long swing, when behind in the count, the same tendency occurs because other coaches notice long swings as well. They will have their pitchers bust them in with fastballs alot. Like stated above, in order for a guy with a long swing to get around, he has to start earlier, so he will be vulnerable to curve balls and off speed pitches. Youll notice him getting jammed alot, (broken bats with wood) and struggling to make good contact on off speed pitches. Best of Luck !!!

I agree,we had a young 10 year old that could crush the ball and hit anything you tried to pitch on the outside but his swing was long.As a result,I had my son start pitching him inside and my son never gave up the long ball to him.Lots of weak infield grounders or popups off the handle.just don't make a mistake and leave it out over the middle of the plate.
