Wanted to get some input on current bat weight alongside physical dimensions (height/weight) and the progression getting to current weight and any plans for changing (i.e. kid keeps growing).  Also, what is average fastball speed coming at him these days.

My 2017 at 6'2" 165 is swinging 33 and usually faces low/mid 80's against the better teams in the area.  I think that weight may be a little too high but it seems to suit his swing.  I suspect he will not be going to 34 any time soon.  Given his growth over the past 18-24 months, he did not spend much time at 32.

I am swinging about a 37 inch 27 ounce bat with about a 2 inch barrel.  (Sorry couldn't resist)

My son is a 2019, and is 5'6" at about 140 pounds and he is swinging a 32" -3 in games and a 33" -3 in BP. His game bat is a little light for him, but he has always liked a heavier bat. I don't think you can compare one kid to the next. It will depend on what he likes and as long as he can maintain proper form, then let him use it.

Assuming you mean length as most bats at this age are -3.  There maybe a few -2 out there but I am guessing they are few and far between.  My 6'4" 170 pound 2017 swings a 33 -3.

By this age I would think the kid knows what they are comfortable swinging.  I would assume end loaded vs. distributed weight is as much a factor as length and weight.

joes87 - the -3 is correct - thanks for clarifying.

My follow up question might be - "Is anyone using a 34?"  I started looking around in case there was a reason to move up (maybe gain 20-30 lbs) at some point and it looks like 34's are not necessarily mainstream (when you sort for 34 the choices get limited).  From the posts so far (ignoring jolietboy) there does not seem to be a huge range despite some differences in height/weight.  I almost get the feeling 33 is the top end for a lot of folks.

I guess my fungo bat reference was not well received...  my son has a 34/32 bbcor wood composite.  Just for practice right now but will probanly swing a 34 by next year.  When you are tall you will take whatever you can get to reach that down and away pitch.  Take your exit velocity off the tee.  If it is not impacted by the longer bat then use it.  The one thing to remember though is you lose maneuverability with every ounce you add.  So it is a balancing act.
2017 is 5'11" 210 lbs, BIG framed kid. Think running back.

Swings a 33/30 BBCOR and wood for consistency. No plan to move up in bat length, as it is my opinion that decision should not be based on strength or size. Does do swing work with a +2.

Typically sees 80-84/85, but saw 87/88 in game #2 this season and will see 90-92 as soon as this weekend. Will probably see a couple of others in that high 80's low 90's range depending upon the other teams rotation.
