I just thought of this while in the chat room.....

What do you do... if... You are lucky enough to be the parent of a boy who gets drafted.... By a team who is the team you grew up hating?

You know... You are a Yankee fan and the red sox draft him.... or vice versa.....

A real emotional roller coaster...

I think what you do is feel very, very fortunate that your son is possibly going to get a chance to play professionally. My belief is that regardless of which team he has a chance to play for, whether you love or despise that team, you get on board and be glad to support him chasing the dream. He'd be joining some very elite company and regardless of how it turned out, it would be a great opportunity.

Remember, even teams we love to hate (can you say Dodgers?) are staffed with many very fine people who are all trying to work toward the same goal of putting a competitive product on the field. Many personal relationships are forged over minor league careers that endure well past playing days.
I agree with the others. If my son was ever blessed with that opportunity, I'd thank God and run with it regardless of the team. He's a lifelong Braves fan, but I'd bet he'd learn to love just about any team too. Very few have that chance to further that dream.

Obrady - hadn't thought about that issue - I'd prefer a "blue" team myself as that's my best color! Big Grin Well, Braves would work perfectly for son and myself! Smile
Living in Nebraska, I'm certainly in the minority as I don't support the Huskers. (Partly because I've only been here for 2 years). I'm a big Miami Hurricane fan, which doesn't go over very big in Husker Nation. However, I've said that if my son were to get a chance to play for the Huskers - I'll certainly start supporting Nebraska. Until then, I just keep my mouth shut and do my rooting in silence.

The only acceptable alternative to the Huskers around here is Creighton - except when they're playing each other - then everyone gets the red out - even some those that you'd see at BlueJay games.
We didn't find it too difficult to have a "new favorite team." Big Grin When your favorite team "overlooks" drafting your son, you don't "overlook" a lot of their "faults." Works somewhat like a draft report; when you examine things more critically, and when they don't draft your son you can be pretty critical, the former "favorite" shows its "flaws" and can become a "filler." Wink
Learned last week that the "favorite" can also evolve. Four teammates my son has played with in his very short career were moved to other organizations through trade and the Rule V minor league draft.

infielddad...

Watching the moves sometimes makes you wonder...
How much is too much?
That's what I thought and was informed later that people closer than I am to the situation thought the same thing?! Eek

To lose the POY of the franchise...
To lose a player like GG who is "oh so easy" on the eyes...lol...ask your wife.
and admittedly not knowing much about the replacement makes it all seem overwhelming.
Understand now the organization thinks he will do well at Rogers Centre.

But Zack Jack has been invited to Spring Camp and has a chance to make the rotation in his new home by year's end...How cool is that?
