I once played in a charity basketball game against five members of the then-Super Bowl champion NY Giants, a "reward" for winning a military basketball tournament.
I accidentally poked all pro linebacker Pepper Johnson in the eye while going for a rebound (which I had zero chance of pulling down once he decided he wanted it).
I know what went through my mind! As I saw a look of surprise and anger flash across his face, I thought, "He's going to kill me right here in front of my whole family!"
Fortunately, pro athlete that he is, he regained his composure immediately, passed the ball to OJ Anderson for an easy layup, and went about his business.
Does it have to be a superstar to feel badly about it? Other players have lives and families too.
I would say the range would be anywhere from "Oh S*%T" to "Well he shouldn't have been crowding the plate".
Serious question: Was the fear of retaliation because of the stature of the player? Or because of a general "unwritten rule" on the matter?
