I don't have a problem with the font, though it's a bit large.  It's a Google font called Open Sans and it's become very popular. I think the width of the content column is an issue, but that apparently is happening so the ads can take up more real estate.  I'd go for a bigger window overall.

Anytime a site changes themes it will make some people unhappy, but they usually come around fairly quickly as they get used to it.

It looks cleaner and fresher to me, but the ads are definitely bigger. The only issue was finding messages. Took me a little bit to figure out how to message/dialogue with the new interface. In case people are wondering...

Click on the menu in the upper left corner (the three lines stacked on each other). Click on your username and then select Private Messages. All old messages appear to have made the migration to the new interface.

RJM alluded to it: the new format is referred to as Responsive, i.e., it's appearance "responds" to the output device so that it can read clearly across anything without the need to develop different formats for each device: PC, tablet, phone, watch, whatever.

The trend this year has been to reshape websites so that they are long single pages, large typeface, and delivered as Responsive.

Fairly certain that this board can be modified so that the main column can be extended while narrowing the right side menu.

JOE, you are correct in all respects.  The problem with the column, besides the larger width of the ads, is that it's set to work on a desktop resolution of  1024 pixels wide. That was the standard 5+ years ago, and many designers still adhere to it even though the vast majority of desktop users are using larger monitors.  CACO Girl also has a point.  The shaded boxes for regular posts make the shaded boxes for quotes not as clear as before, so some additional styling might be a good idea there.

Condensed??? it's freaking huge on my screen!  My problem is the quote within the quote is wicked hard to tell who said what.

Wicked hard?!? I thought you were from Georgia! That response marks you as a New Englander, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

No one seems to be really "from" Georgia, the place is full of all the people who got tired of shoveling snow ;-)

After a few hours of using the new interface, I'm digging it.

Pros:

1)Bigger fonts for older eyes on my laptop browser.  Much easier to read with with mobile device.

2) Dialogs are gone...back to Private Messages which was the previous name for private conversations.  It is located under your Avatar or Screen name.  All my previous PMs are there.

3) Change is good.  Looking more like twitter might not be a bad thing as most young people (ie...high school baseball players) communicate with twitter.  Old timers just have to adapt.

Cons:

1) None yet.

I don't like it.  The font needs to be a bit darker and the colors on the main forum boards bleed into each other.  Everything looks too washed out.  Make the quote boxes darker grey and make the font color a darker blue and it would really help.

Agree with this part -- the color scheme looks washed out a little bit. More contrast will be nice.

I prefer the previous format. But that may just be familiarity. I learned where to look for information there. But getting on my eight inch tablet I don't have any issues with the new format.

There is an important issue to remember regarding format changes. The format may be less expensive to operate. It may be easier to maintain. It may be an upgrade the customer has no choice to accept other than walking away. It's more important Julie is happy.  Julie is the customer. We're just along for the ride.

I just realized you can't edit your posts anymore.  And you guys thought I didn't make any sense before...

You can. Click on "Take Action" on your own post and "Edit" is there. The new format was a little weird for me at first, but I kind of like it.

What I did was make the "Activity" page my bookmark.  Then when I come here, I have all the most recent posts listed. Those are the ones I want to look at first anyway.
