It is scary how clueless some players and parents are these days.
The whole purpose of a HS Showcase is to get the attention of college coaches and MLb scouts. Any teams I ever coached at HS showcase or tournament I tell the players and parents before the games exactly how they are being graded by college and mlb scouts. Run every ball as fast as you can to first, you are being timed. Run full tilt on base hits and round the bags.
Outfielders air it out to the cutoff man on base hits. You are being graded plus it prevents players from taking chances on you later.
Catchers are being timed on throw to 2nd in between innings.
Run on and off the field.
Pitchers show off your fastball. You are being timed. Plus show your breaking ball and change up. THROW STRIKES AND GET PEOPLE OUT.
DONT throw any bats, curse or swear. You look like a moron and so does your parents to any college coach or mlb scout.
Great post, Frank, and great advice. "How to Perform at a Showcase in Nine Easy Lessons" (counting showing off each of the different pitches as an easy lesson).
