Apparently there has been a spike in transfers since the NCAA waived the permission-to-contact process for student-athletes. I wonder how this will impact college baseball rosters?

Oregon has now lost five players this fall as Rhodes and Pinto join Mary Iakopo, who left the program last week but whose destination is not yet known, All-American pitcher Miranda Elish and utility player Lauren Burke, who both left last month to play for former Oregon coach Mike White at Texas.

The Ducks have just 14 players on their roster.

While the NCAA transfer process has changed for Division I athletes, and to a lesser extent for Division II athletes, nothing has changed about the rules that determine whether an athlete can be immediately eligible at the new university that they transfer to.

One key difference to keep in mind is that softball players (and most other athletes except for Division I baseball, basketball, football, and men's ice hockey who are on scholarship or were recruited to their original university) have the opportunity to be immediately eligible at the next university they transfer to.  So, it's unlikely that you'll see as much of this in baseball as you're seeing in this particular situation with softball.
