Actually I think I know the answer but saw this last night.

Actual count is 3 - 2, the batter lost count and asks the umpire, he tells him it is 3 - 1. Next ball is a strike, batter is standing there waiting and the opposing coach walks up and asks the ump the count, the two umpires confer and he says strike three and calls the batter out.

I am assuming that it is incumbent on the batter to know that count, but curious if there is any recourse since the batter used the input from the umpire?

We had a similar situation occur during a high school game. Missed bunt attempt turned into a passed ball and a run scored. Home plate umpire forgot to advance his clicker. Should now be two strikes. Scoreboard also incorrect. After the next strike our visiting coach asks about the out. Plate umpire asks home dugout what the count is. Should have asked his partner or official book in the booth. You guess what the home team had as a count.
