It takes a lot of courage to post this type of eval question. I commend you for that. My first question is this: Are you a LHP or RHP? Big difference. I searched through your posts but couldn't figure it out. If I missed something here just disregard my reply. But there is a big difference. Lefty rising senior currently topping at 79mph kinda could project. might pick up 2-3 mph with just a few mechanical changes ( Stride length ) and arm strength ( Long toss). Now its a rising senior lefty topping out at 82-83. That works with movement and a nice curveball.

But with a righty, It's a different challenge. If your numbers are on the right side, same thing. Try to pick up 2-3 mph w/ adjustments but you will see less interest.

Soft tossing leftys play NCAA baseball. Rightys not so much

1626, I think you've pretty much gotten a good amount of advice here and there is not much else to add.  The one last comment I have is regarding your summer team.  I can't speak for how things are run in CO, but here in IL the HS summer teams are simply setup to give the HS coaches extra time and games to evaluate the incoming talent as well as work with the current kids.  There is no showcasing or playing in tourneys that regularly draw college recruiters.  If your lucky and have a stud or two on your HS summer team you may draw a few coaches to watch that kid and hopefully you do something to catch their eye during that game.

I would seriously suggest you contact some of the full time travel teams.  Again ones that gear themselves toward recruiting and not playing in tourneys just to play.  If they don't have a spot on the team for you ask them if you can come in as a PO if they need any help or additional pitchers when they are playing in exposure tourneys.  They maybe playing in a PG event down in FL or AZ and need to bring along a few extra kids.

Finally you may want to try posing on this board as well as the CO portion of the board asking if anyone is going to any of the Perfect Game exposure tourneys and need extra players.  I do know that there are some folks that will be looking for extra players.  In addition there are some folks that put together teams only for these events.  Maybe you can hook up with one of them.

Thanks for your answers guys, I have one more question, so there's a prospect camp in my area in june, so I decided to go on their website: Juniordaybaseball and the camp itself looks good, however I am not interested in the colleges that will be in attendance, well actually I should say they probably would not be interested in me as they are all pretty high quality Baseball schools, so my question is do you think it would be worth attending just for the evaluation part, and tips they may have? And also would the camps written evaluation be useful in showing coaches from other schools that I'm hoping to play at? Thanks

baseball1626,

If you have NOT gone to a showcase or camp it may be very worthwhile for you to attend if you are going to get something out of it.   The format, atmosphere, and evaluation process may prove to be worthwhile for you if the price is right.  You readily admit the showcase probably isn't a fit athletically (you are showing signs of self-awareness) but you don't know unless you try.  You have to start somewhere and this may be a convenient way for you to do that.  So, the next time you go to a showcase (when it really matters!) you'll know what to do.

There have been many thousands of college baseball recruits before you.  They were all nervous adn they all started somewhere. If this situation fits your budget, schedule and end-goal (written evaluation) then it may be worthwhile.  So, I'd look into it further and discuss with your folks.  Also, you'll get a sense of the talent on the field with that self-awareness I mentioned earlier.  All is good as you learn how all of this works.

Good luck and go get'em!

Thanks for the answer Fenwaysouth. Like you said there's no harm in trying and I'm sure the coaches there will be able to give me some answers on where I might be able to play, so because it was in my area and resonably priced I decided to sign up. And again as you said it will certainly help me get more comfortable with the format of the camps, so I'll be more accosted to future camps when it really matters. Thanks again for the answer!
