I'm asking about from age thirteen through high school. In our area the tradition path has been Junior Legion and/or community based travel county leagues and then Legion.
USSSA has become popular in the past few years for 13U to 15U. My son is playing USSSA since I believe the competition far exceeds Junior Legion. Our 14U team would have kicked tail on the 14/15 Junior Legion team. For fall ball and now 15U, we're playing up to 16U and 17U to prep the kids for high school. They've all just become freshmen.
Connie Mack and any other rec ball just isn't competitive here. My son filled in for a couple of 16U Connie Mack games when he was thirteen. He said the pitching wasn't any better than the 13U USSSA studs.
I'm also noticing some of the more likely D1 prospects are passing on Legion to play on showcase teams. Since Legion takes many players who are college freshman, a lot of sixteen year olds sit on the bench in Legion but also play in the community travel league.
I'm curious to know what's happening from ages 13-18 in other parts of the country.
