Situation was 1 out runners on 1st and 2nd. Batter hits a fly to shallow left field. Ball hits in fielders glove and bounces out. Umpire has prematurely called him out but never call him safe. Runners do not advance. Fielder throws to 2nd base who tags runner and steps on bag. Umpire call double play and inning is over. Umpire told coach he did not protest "properly"

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it.--Frederic Bastiat

Well the umpire clearly got himself into a mess here....a later post from #32 Dad states that the umpire do not make any verbal calls all game long...

Clearly this umpire needs to work on his mechanics...He got himself into a bind when he did not make the call correctly on the mishandled fly....clearly a "no catch" signal was needed...

Much of how to respond is what we call HTBT (had to be there) to imagine....but I have a couple of questions...Did the umpire ever see the dropped ball?.....its clear he assumed it was a catch, and allowed a DP.....Did your coach come out and ask if the umpire saw the drop?.... or ask if he could check with his partner to confirm the drop?

The other comment I dont understand is the umpire saying that the coach didnt protest properly....Im thinking he meant appeal properly, but even that is a mistake....

Guess I have more questions than answers, but one thing is certain, this umpire needs some work,.....
