My son's team lost a really close one last night 4-3. He is a senior and this ended his high school career. It has been a fun ride with him receiving several state-wide honors. His dad and I have been active with his bb teams since day one 12 years ago. This morning I'm kind of numb - not sure if that is due to the late night drive home or the realization that his fun high school career is over. The summer stretches out long before he heads off to play college ball at Walters State in east TN. I know it will pass quickly but . . . this is the first summer in a dozen that we've not been on a ball field somewhere. It's true what one poster on here says "Watching my son play ball is just another day in paradise."

First thing, as CD mentioned he should be playing somewhere this summer and if he has progressed as I think he has you should be enjoying this new experience also.

As far as The HS career ending on a "sad" note, look at it as a book you can't put down. Some of the best chapters end when things didn't go as expected for the hero. But you then start a new chapter anxious to see how he moves on to new opportunities and new adventures.

In regard to your activity with his teams that has now come to an end......I can relate. I wondered that same thing when my son got done with HS. It was then I realized that all those parents who came to games just to enjoy the game without the added "team" responsibilities had it made. Even though I enjoyed the responsibility, there were things my wife and I were missing outside of baseball. I'm sure there will be some here that will say "there's nothing outside of baseball for me", for those who do, I send my condolences. However, if for some reason you just can't fill that void, I'm sure you have connections that can put you in a volunteer position within the game in your community.

Now you've turned the pages with two books, with new chapters and adventures, your sons, and yours. Happy reading
