Son has gotten a few emails and letters asking for a video showing either game action, a workout or both. He is a second baseman. On an active day he gets maybe 4 balls hit to him. Other than atbats, what do I put in the video? As for a workout, I assume that they want to see his swing, see him take some grounders, and see him throw. Anything else?

Finally, is "professional" production quality relevant or can we cut and paste various things onto a VCR tape?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Doc that is an excellent post.
I used DVD witch allows you to have several videos. When the recruiter opens the DVD he sees several videos from which he can choose. I put a description below each video and had photos and a fact sheet. The guy could say I want to look at this one and not the others. There were probably 15 videos ranging from 2 innings to a complete game. The video could be started and stopped at any time and go to another if he wantede or not. I had coaches who looked at every video which probably took 12-15 hrs and ask for more as the current season progressed. The one guy who played in the Yankee organization said he enjoyed the games. If you can get them interested they will look at quite a bit. I just gave them the choice.
Keep the tape short in the 5 minutes range. Make sure to put your son's contact info on the tape in case it is separated from your cover letter. I included some BP and fielding practice and mixed in some short game footage from live games and showcases he attended. If you can file his 60 yd dash at the showcases it may help show how athletic and fast he is.
