Torre is getting ripped here in NY by local media for not having some of his players lay down bunts early in the game with Schilling on the mound last nite.

Did Torre feel:
(a) it would have been poor sportsmanship
(b) bunting is simply not their game
(C) confident that they would smack him around like they did in game one and didn't need to resort to dirty tactics.

Why wouldn't a manager try and expose the oppositions obvious weakness especially that of a pitcher who can make all the difference in a game. You see it in football all the time where a team will look to expose a rookie or hurt cornerback. Wet grass and all who's to say Jeter doesn't lay down a bunt to open the game and schilling comes up lame and has to be removed or causes greater discomfort where it takes a few mph off his fastball!

Another case of bad commentary misleading the public.

Did you see Schilling cover 1st base? He did it just fine without problem. Just because McCarver said he was limping doesn't make it so.

I saw the replay. I replayed it several times with my TIVO just to find out what McCarver could've seen...........It wasn't there.

Schilling was/is not immobile. He just had difficulty with the pivot of his post foot.

Bunting would've been the best thing for the Red Sox, not the Yankees.

If you want to talk about something stupid, talk about Francona taking Schilling out after 7 innings. They got away with it but he has to go out in the 8th and at least pitch until a runner gets on.

He was dominating......no matter how Francona tried to spin it after the game.

Still think you try to bunt early to find out. Anyone that has pitched with a bum leg knows that, drugs or not, you have trouble being as athletic as you'd like to be. I agree that not every Sox player should be bunting, but guys like Damon that were really struggling (until last night) should have made Shil make some plays. If nothing else, it makes the pitcher think differently and forces him to acknowledge an important weapon.

The problem with this statement is there was no evidence of him having a bum leg.

Yes, before the game.

But definately NO after the game started. He was dominant. You aren't dominant with a bum leg.
