You REALLY don't want to know.
2013 14u league, $50 sign up, $50 uniform
2014 Jr. American Legion, $300 sign up fee which included uniform. Player hotels paid by legion during tournaments
2015 16u Travel team $350 initial fee + $300/week. Coaches not paid. I saved $200/week by staying with family members. PG tournament will cost us $2000 for hotel, gas, food.
$1,500 ... It was a heavily subsidized team. They played in tournaments in FL, GA, NC, OH, NJ and MA.
Free ... A local scout team
$1,600 ... Two individual showcases
A large optional expense was my traveling to the events. FL and GA involved airfare. Three involved long drives. All but two involved overnight lodging and food. I spent more on me than my son's baseball.
PG tournament will cost us $2000 for hotel, gas, food.
That's $2035. With the parking fee. LOL.
Glad you can pay it. Wonder how many top athletes can't?
2016 - ~3K (including 2 individual showcases)
2020 - ~4.5K (including Cooperstown)
That total included team cost, uniform, hotel, gas, meals, lessons, etc. If I was able to link it to baseball, it's in the total estimate.
Now after dropping about $2000 in two months I feel embarrassed.
High School. 0 cost, participation in fund raiser as best could.
Legion. $150 Donation. No other costs. All included.
Showcase/tournament. 6 @ split team costs. $300 total. Day travel, so car expense.
Gate Fees: $100 to high school
$85 to Legion. Sometimes no gate.
$240 to Showcase.
Parking Fees: 0 and 0 and $25
Concessions: 50 and 50 and LOL not a chance 0.
We played in 4 in area junior college showcase tourneys
And 2 out of area events also Juco events one in Corpus Christi
Also we did a tourney at a Independent league staidum also in Dfw.
I have 3 paid coaches.
Provided not personal helments but team helments
4 of my 5 grads are moving on to naia ball
So i guess I did my job made it a little more fair priced for familys and still make some to feed my kiddo
Prob will go up to $1500 next summer
Thanks again for the responses Coach Martin Dallas Pirates
2014 son
Each year paid $1700 plus uniforms starting at 15u. 15u stayed in DFW, except for PG in Ft. Myers
16u played in Ok, DFW, Houston, Ark,
17u played OK, DFW, Houston,
We attempted to make our money stretch, so PG tournaments were out after 15u as parents did see a value. 6 kids went D1 (Big 12, ACC, Conf USA, Ohio Valley) and 6 others went juco and 2 career ending injuries and 1 football athlete.
Lessons learned were at 15u and 16u, being an independent team hurts schedule at tournaments but when you win games and have talent it over comes it. At 17u, team sold to a large organization and saw absolutely no benefit. I did our scheduling and contact with coaches; and only thing I noticed was were directed to play in certain tournaments to make the organziation feel better; even to the detriment of our team.

A top athlete will be invited to play on a team free of charge if he can't afford it. A top player draws coaches and scouts attention. It's good for the entire team.

That would kinda be excepting for the kid that got replaced? Or shuttled to back of line? But hey that's ok right?
I know how it works. Phone rings often.

So who determines what a top athlete is and how does a kid get identified as one? Are these "top athletes" flown into tournaments?
Who: reputable baseball folks. IE: scouts, recruiting coordnators, and coaches of reputable organizations who have an eye for D1 type talent.
Flown in: yes.

From where do these scouts identify these "top athletes"? I know they don't have time to visit high schools so is it from showcase events or tournaments? I'm just wondering if its pay to be recognized.
I know a local kid that throws 90 mph and was offered a D1 scholarship to Texas Tech. I'm pretty sure he wasn't flown to various tournaments as he played American Legion.
I know my son (who was not a top flight D1 kid) was seen and asked by coaches if he would come in and play a tournament here or tournament there if didn't interfere with his team.
I would imagine that is how it works for others. You see a stud and his team isn't going to play in said tournament; you offer him a chance to play with your team.

Yes flown.
Hey reputable is an interesting word? Would that be the same reputable coach or organization that took your payment then invited your replacement?
There is a reputation for that in some circles.
And I don't call that real reputable.

That would be the reputable organizations who have an eye for D1 type hopes carrying large checkbooks.
Since parents on my son's team only pay for the tournaments and their own travel costs the team couldn't afford to fly a "ringer" in to bolster our talent level.
2018 has been "flown" in to pitch a game for teams other than his perm team....very common.... in big tourney's you need more pitching.... helps the team.... I would not agree to do this in a position player role.
I have spent over 50k on travel baseball for 4 boys...I have likely watched over 10000 innings

The top players have pro scouts at their high school games. It's the last chance to check them out before the draft.
i checked out the alumni list of an academy pursuing my son. I knew two of the kids from playing ball with their dads. i also saw Upton's name on the list. Upton lived eight hours away. My friend's kids lived seven hours away. I called my friends. This partitular academy saw the two players at a showcase and invited them to go to East Cobb. Half the starting lineup were one time invitees. Paying customers were thrown under the bus. These are things you need to check out when considering teams.
You know who Upton Is. The other two played in the SEC. One is in his 4th MLB season.

I wonder how many MiLB players could do better and be willing to take less money?
You know they are projectable?
