A short time ago I exchanged PMs with a fellow webster in order to receive a snail-mail address to send one of my son's cards to. The other webster asked if my son would sign the card with some words of encouragement to his HS senior(05) son who has already signed to play college ball.

I left the request on my desk for my son who was going to be dropping by the house while I was at work. My son's words of encouragement were(and not surprisingly, since he was a 20th round draft selection):

"NEVER give up!"

I am wondering what one short bit(that would fit on a baseball card) of advice others may provide to a younger ballplayer as he prepares to enter the next level?

Ralph Waldo Emerson is usually credited for the saying.

Won't fit on a card, though........
"You say you want to win"? "You come in here and you tell me how bad you want it"! "I could care less about words boy"! "Show me through your actions". "Somewhere theres a kid in the basement of his house pounding out push ups. Swinging a bat 200 reps a night. Pushing himself when no one else is watching. What are you doing other than talking"? - You need a big baseball card for this.
Moving up to college is so much different. Players come and players go. You might seem comfortable and then some hot shot recruit is nipping at your heels and you are fighting for your job. the same if you move onto the professional level. the most important thing is that you have the mindset to handle this. Play every day as if it were your last game.
Took the ones I like from above and copied them to word – thought some of you would like the list.
