Back in 1967 or so my dad had a reel to reel and it played every morning as he got ready for work. Sammy Davis, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra were all that were on that reel..........and though I was not aloud to touch the reel to reel somehow "Candyman" or "I did it my way" always played first.

Thanks for jogging that memory out of this old brain.

OH YEAH, Springsteen! We saw him in concert last fall in Minneapolis/St. Paul, probably the most fun concert I've seen in my life. Great music, but even greater is his energy on stage - I think he's about 58 and does 200 concerts a year! But he gives it 100% for two hours, really just WORKING for the audience.

About a week ago, Springsteen returned to St. Paul, and my younger son (the rocker) got main floor General Admission tickets with some friends. There was a lottery to get into the "Pit", a roped off area right in front of the stage, and their numbers were picked. They stood about 5 or 6 people away from The Boss during the whole concert. Tony said Springsteen is drenched in sweat by the end of the first song, he works so hard to show the audience a good time. What a musician and performer!

There have been some great performers over the years - from Sinatra - to The Temptations - from Nat King Cole to the Moody Blues - but noone will ever compare to this singular talent - the greatest recording artist that has ever walked the face of this earth.

Two of the best shows that I've ever seen: Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Tate Center on the UGA campus in the mid-80's. Fourth row in a venue that held less that 1000 (if I remember correctly). Saw BB King at the same place. Awesome!

But my all time favorite show: 1991 Allman Bros at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta during the Braves-Twins world series after that incredible worst-to-first season. It was on a travel day after the Braves had swept in Atlanta, and needed only one win in Minnesota (which, of course, they didn't get). People were baseball crazy - I've never seen it like that before or since in Atlanta. During the show, when there would normally be applause, everyone did the tomahawk chop! Even the band started doing it after a while. The air was electric. I'll never forget it.

Listening to the "Black" album by Metallica before games added 10 mph to my fastball and I didn't even pitch.

I'll always have a soft spot for The Gap Band's "YOU DROPPED A BOMB" because my school blasted it after the home team went deep. That song makes me smile everytime I hear it, which isn't very often.

Julie, You should have seen him back in the day when the shows were 3-3 1/2 hours long! I saw him here last year--it was my 22nd Springsteen show. There is the Boss, and then there is everyone else.

I LOVE MF!! No one's ever heard of them outside of Georgia (I worked two college summers up at Lake Lanier waterpark), but I advise everyone right here and mnow to go get you some MF (they can be found on Napster, Limewire, etc)!! I think the best stuff is on their LIVE album, but one of my all-time favorite song's is "Movin' On".....from the Iron Age album....that's a great album, too. Their bass player, Wyzzard, is one of the best you'll ever hear, and Baby Jean would wipe the floor with any Idol contestant. This is the most underrated GREAT band of all time....besides maybe Jason and the Scorchers!

The last time I had a recording, it was on vinyl - Another Mother Further. What a blast from the past. I'm going to upgrade this weekend!

On the other hand, I'm gonna upgrade on the way to the game tonight!

OMG, i have not heard anyone mention Mothers Finest in 20+ (almost 30??, oh that hurt ) years. only had the one 8-track of "Another Mother Further" but they absolutely ROCKED the Jensen 6x9's with the 40 watt under dash amp. Don't know if they ever got near Missouri, but i have never seen them live. will have to have a new copy now!!

For me, music depends on the mood...

Do I want it loud? Back in Black, early Zeppelin, any pre-Sammy Van Halen, Nevermind.

Do I want to relax? Buffett, Steely Dan, CSN, Eagles

Do I want some R&B? Little Stevie, The Commodores, The Spinners, Marvin

Do I want to reminisce? The Cars, REM, U2, Steve Miller, Creedence

I haven't seen a Springsteen concert in several years. When I saw her comment I was thinking, "The man has cut back in his old age." I remember a concert at the Coliseum in the 80's where he played from about 10pm to 2am.

Definetly have to agree with the BOSS....Springsteen. But I will qualify that with Springsteen and the E Street Band. Didn't care so much for his ventures into Bob Dylan-like folk songs.

There's a guy from Asbury Park who moved to Maine and made a very poor career decision. When he moved he called his friend Bruce and suggested he keep his band together. They became the E Street Band.

His name is Bill Chinnock. He started another band in Maine. It was an E Street band knockoff right down to the black sax player. They were one of the best bar bands in New England.

He eventually tried to take the band big time and signed with a major label. But he couldn't pull himself to compromise his principles and play his music in the pop style the record label wanted.

Bill Chinnock recently committed suicide suffering from some disease he couldn't handle anymore. There's a song of his on YouTube that's just not his style.

JMHO waiting for Columbus is my all time favorite, cruising,road trip, traveling to tourney, all around best.

I've found also on those rare occasions where I clean house, it goes better with a little vino, and a little "Dixie Chicken."
