I signed my son up for a baseball event over Winter Break, nothing major just something instructional. They asked all the usual questions, name, address, position....but then it got to phone number, and I hesitated. In the end I put MY number down because my son asked me to but it got me thinking.
What grade was your son in when you/he started listing HIS phone number on the forms rather than yours?

I've always put his number as primary, then mine as secondary. Once the kids hit high school, the coaches here pretty much stop telling parents anything directly. They rely on the kids to "be responsible" and keep people informed. It mostly works, so we just continued it for camps, etc.
Mine, once he hit freshman year of HS. Prior to that, when he was asked to contact a college coach, I would have him initiate the call. I helped prepare him for the first couple and sat with him while he made them. After that, I let him manage all his own contact and brief me afterward.

When he was a Junior and I finally bought him his own cell phone (I know, most kids get cell phone much sooner these days and many did then too; that's almost 10 years ago

14U summer before freshman year. I had never really thought about it but the coach asked specifically for the players number and not the parents. The head of the organization asked for the parents number. Since then I've always put his number and email. I don't even put mine.
We use are home phone number since we don't get cell service at our house. Yup it's true.
When we first started the process. For the 2017 that was the summer before sophomore year. For the the 2019, it will be tonight.
Never...... I used that as a sort of wall of seperation. In the cycle of things at certain times of year the phone thing could get very annoying.I often wondered how they could get home # or my email. Everytrhing filtered thru Hs & TB coaches to the house then to my guy.Hasn't had any effect on son.He basically been gone since early july and is handling all his stuff on his own. including next summer were to play.
