Just curious when your son went from a 32" to a 33". My son (will be 13 in april) playing 13u, using a 32/27 right now. He is about 5'7.5, probably about 135lbs. Would it be a good idea to move him to a 32/29 next year or a 33/30.

My son went to a 32" to 33" when he was 15 or so, and maybe 5'9". His hitting instructor said his core strength (and he has really long arms for his height) was enough for him to move it was well as a 32". Good luck.
Never...

Why move up in size?
Not sure, just a thought as he gets older (ie stronger) it would create a little bigger of a sweet spot?
2020 son HS SO 5'10"ish prefers a 32" doesn't want to change and has used the same bat for the last 2 years. 2017 son college FR 6'0"ish uses a 33" and at times thinks about going back to a 32" as a lot of guys on his team use a 32".
Let them hit what is comfortable.
2019 son is 6'2" 205 and uses a 32". HS coach has a rule no 33s allowed regardless of how big you are.
At 13u/7th grade son used a 31/28. He was 5’2” 100. Middle school followed NFHS drop three rule. He was 5’4” 120 in 8th grade. Freshman year he moved to a 32/29. He was 5’11” 135. Soph year at 6’ 160 he used a 33/30. Junior year at 6’1” 170 he used a 34/31. In high school it was more about strength and quickness than size as he moved up in bat size/weight.
STAY AT 32IN, MY SON IS 5.10 WITH CLEATS 180 LBS OF MUSCLE , SAYS THE 32 IN HAS BETTER BALANCE.' SOME MIGHT SAY GET A 33IN TO HIT THE OUTSIDE PITCH,
IF YOU CANT HIT THE OUTSIDE PITCH, YOU HAVE OTHER ISSUES.
Thanks for all the insight!
For the OP: your son is 13, don't sweat it.
For this response "HS coach has a rule no 33s allowed regardless of how big you are." All I have to say is wow, whatever (with an utterly exaggerated eyeroll). Sideboards like these don't help players play their best. It's just stupid.
My son is 2022, not yet 14, but he's just over 6'2" with his cleats on. He swings a 32/29 and can hit a misplaced unintentional walk. Let him swing what's comfortable, but allowable under whatever sanctioning body he plays for.
Truly a case of size doesn't matter, but its what you do with it.
Moved from 32 to 34 as a sophomore. Used a 33 occasionally as a junior.
Most guys in high school swung a 33. On a roster of 40 in college only 1 has a 32 and about 10 guys swing a 34 the rest use a 33 or 33.5
My 2020 son went to a 33 at 14U, I think he was 5'10 150 lb back at the time. It worked for him.
There was a time when my son couldn't hit the outside pitch, up until he was about 10/11. So I took a year where I focused on pitching to him only the outside part of the plate. Then he used 30/31 because I wanted to ensure he had complete control of his swing. I would tell him even if I missed and pitched inside to bring his elbows in and hit to the opposite field.
If he were my son I would want to see control and being able to cover all of the plate. And with a lighter bat he can train himself to do that with more intent and precision.

That has to be one of the stupidest rules I have ever heard of.

RIght next to "always take the first pitch"
A longer bat moves faster at the end of the bat, given the same swing. Increasing from a 32" to a 33" increases the "end of bat" bat speed roughly 3%.
If he's not 90mph exit velo or better he should stay with the smaller bat.
Wow...the kid is 12 years old right now. Are there that many 12's that generate 90mph exit velocity?
I think they just meant that until he generates that exit velo, then he should stick with a 32"
I think he is around 70 off a tee with a bbcor, he will be 13 in 2 mos.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.
Whew! Was about to be all kinds of inferior-feeling...
