Some times in life you wonder if your kids truly get IT.  You teach them the right things and  you hope it comes out in life.  My son has been blessed by God and hard work to be gifted with a baseball and bat.  He has received a lot of accolades and awards and will continue to.  He has been blessed to receive a scholarship to play at a P5 next year.  All of that is great and I am proud of him and his accomplishments.  But my goal as a dad is more than the baseball accomplishments and rewards.  I want him to be a Godly man.

Last night as our team won the District Championship when we were not predicted to finish in top 2 my wife was taking pictures.  She got home and asked me how our son knew the shortstop for the other team.  I responded I don't know other than he has played against him last year and this year.  Last year they put us out of playoffs and this year we put them out.  I said maybe they have played together somewhere since he has played on a lot of teams.  I asked why?  She showed me the pictures she had taken.  I missed all of it in the celebration and where I was at.

When he got home, she asked him how he knew the player.  He said I don't.  We have just talked in the last two years in the three games we have played.  She asked why he went to him after the game.  He responded because it seemed like the right thing to do.  I realized in that moment that He Gets IT.  That is why I love high school sports and sports in general.  It helps kids get IT.  He said I just told him to keep his head up.  He is a good player.  I'm really not trying to brag on my kid but to remind us as parents and coaches that this is the ultimate goal in life and sports.  To help our kids and others get IT.
