Should prospective student athletes apply for admission at the schools they've narrowed their list to on the same timetable as non-athletes?

So many schools have the early admission thing in the fall now, and I'm just not clear about whether we should be proceeding with that while the recruitment dance is happening. I guess you wouldn't want to wait until spring to apply, if your son hasn't been picked up during the fall early signing period, but, just curious about that part of school selection.

What did the rest of you do?

Thanks,

kt - I remember this was very confusing for us last year too. What we did was apply to anyone that he was interested in or that was interested in him IF there was no application fee. We then looked at schools and chose a few that he had serious interest in and applied there as well. We were operating on a tight budget and couldn't apply everywhere. It worked well for us. If there's a school where you know he's going regardless if baseball works out or not, then obviously apply. If baseball is an important factor in the equation, the possibility of your son ending up at a school that is not even on your list right now is high - so I wouldn't get carried away with spending too much money. lafmom,

Thanks - that's a very reasonable approach. It's interesting that the message about studying hard and registering with the NCAA comes through loud and clear, but I had never picked up on any info about this part of it. With four older kids in or through college, we know it's all about getting in!

I appreciate your advice,
