When to Buy a New Aluminum Bat

I was just curious how long can an aluminum bat last. My son plays HS ball, summer and fall baseball. We have a BP cage and he hits at least 3-4 times a week with both wood and aluminum. He takes at least 100 swings/hits in the cage. I know you can tell by feel and sound but I wanted to know if there is another criteria out there. Aluminum bats are getting more expensive every year. Thanks.
