Recently spoke to the Father of an '05 prospect to see if I might be able to speak with them.

He informed me that they had already chosen an Agent "a couple of months ago". I was curious how they had been able to interview Agents during their Son's season & particularly curious about the process because it's an '05 Player. Dad told me it was the first & only Agent they had spoken to.

This is a little like marrying the first girl you go on a date with... you have no frame of reference. It may work out... if you're lucky. But even if it does you'll be more certain if you talk to a few other people before you commit.

Take your time, you owe it to you child to talk to several Agents as well as MLB personnel to get a feel for what will be best for you. Just like the saying goes "Look before you leap".

BTW, this isn't sour grapes. I have been lucky enough to be the one prospects committed to early in this manner & advised them to interview others regardless. This policy has NEVER worked against me as it served to reinforce the feeling that they had made the right choice to begin with.

I have previously discussed the sham that the NCAA rules are. You can call someone an advisor, you can call him Rumple-freaking-stillskin if you want to. The fact remains that he will be negotiating that Players' contract & one who negotiates on behalf of another is his AGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It certainly is unnerving, at least to me anyways, that a man in your position, (yes you are an agent, one newpspaer even called a a "crack" agent whatever that means) tells people to disregard rules because you do not agree with them

I do not agree with all of what the NCAA stands for the least of which are there rules but they do happen to be in place and need to be adhered to.

You can call them a sham as you do but THEY ARE STILL IN PLACE AND NEED TO BE ADHERED TO.

For sure you, as an agent, do not agree with all the MLB rules pertaining to agents but I bet you OBEY THEM for fear you lose your rights to the "golden egg" that feeds you and your family.

We have people on here seeking a bit of guidance and you are here telling them "the heck with the NCAA Rules "

WRONG !!!!!!

That is not guidance at all!!!

"Main Entry: [3]crack
Function: adjective: of superior excellence or ability i.e. a crack marksman"

"For sure you, as an agent, do not agree with all the MLB rules pertaining to agents but I bet you OBEY THEM for fear you lose your rights to the "golden egg" that feeds you and your family."

Once again, you are wrong. There most definitely ARE MLB rules that I & virtually every other Agent(and Team Executive) ignore in order to be able to do our jobs.

TR,

Time to wake up and smell the coffee. With attitudes like yours we'd all be playing cricket instead of baseball, because if the King said we need to pay extra taxes on that tea, well then those are the rules.

I suppose you also think it's fine for colleges, and all their cohorts to be making millions off of financially disadvanteged kids who can play basketball and football very well, without securing their future if they don't make it to the pros, while limiting their opportunities to make money while in school. Let alone severly punishing schools, programs, but not the violators (coaches) if they go elsewhere for giving athletes clothes or food against the rules!

Get real and quit complaining about people helping others deal with life the way it is, rather than the way you think it should be or your rose colored glasses see the rules.
VC and Trojan,

Wonderful lessons for the youngsters and their parents on the HSBBWEB.

Lie and cheat to get what you want.

Ignore the rules - the ends justifies the means.
Fight a perceived or actual wrong - with an equal wrong.

What a great contribution to the HSBBWEB "family".
What is next - tips on tax fraud?

Do you people have any conscience at all?

"Do you people have any conscience at all?"

Nope, total mercenary,I work for my clients' interests first, last & forever not the NCAA.

But as someone once said on this site "would you rather have a shark working for you to fight off the other sharks or a guppy telling you to swim faster?"

Don't know what it's like on your planet, but here on Earth, I'll get mine & worry about the niceties later. PM me for Jeremy Bloom's phone number. He'll tell you ALL about the great, altruistic, charitable folks @ the NCAA.

VC,

Thats wonderful. Get all you can get anyway you can get it.

How totally and thoroughly sad - yet so true.

P.S. When you first came on the site - I posted about my experiences and opinions with and about agents. As usual - I was roundly criticized - and even received a few pm's telling me what a pompous fool I was etc... You know - The usual.

But heres the bottom line - I knew I was right and your posts validate that.

I also admire the honesty in which you write about your perspective and modus operandi. I begrudge you nothing -it is the real world - which was my point from the very beginning. As I said many months ago - caveat emptor.

Good luck and keep getting yours.
Cmon, "It's" wake up & smell the hypocrisy. The NCAA makes billions off of "amateur" athletes & forces them to jump through more hoops than a circus animal.
Do you have any idea how long it would take & how much money ot would cost to change these stupid rules? Players have aright to representation, it's in the constitution undr "restraint of trade". Yet, because of these idiot bureaucrats they have to participate in this charade. Don't blame voodoo, he's just a cration of the system, Blame the system.
I have been awake for a long time.
I dont need you to tell me what the NCAA is doing or has done. Or MLB or the NBA or the NHL for that matter.

My son jumps through the NCAA hoops.
I jumped through the NCAA hoops.

I am also not blaming voodoo for anything. I dont even know who he is - and it doesnt matter if I did. Its his business - not mine.

I do believe that if you cannot tolerate the system - you should try to change it.

Others believe - if you do not like the system - you should beat it.

Its just a matter of perspective. I do not believe I am a naive fool for taking that perspective.
