For pre-teen youth players, How soon does a catcher move from a signal stance to either a relaxed or ready stance?

If the catcher moves at the wrong time, will umps complain that the catcher is not being still behind the plate?

Is it a timing thing that needs to be worked out betwen the individual pithers and catchers or is there a general guideline that is customary?

The process I teach is:

- Signal
- Relax Position
- Shift to Receiving Stance/Position right before or at leg lift of pitcher

I want a late shift into receiving position for two reasons. One, not to tip off pitch location to hitter and two, I don't want them in receiving position too soon where they get too relaxed. I have found they stay more athletic and focused on the pitch with the late shift.
Thanks,
My son has had a couple of umps tell him to sit still. When I asked son about it, he said he was just trying to set up and get ready for the pitch.

For him, that just means getting out of signal stance. We don't work areas of the strike zone too much at this age.

Maybe the umps are just accustomed to having the kids sitting on their knee savers at this age group (it's 9U ball)?

Every time I watch him, the movement appears pretty normal to me. At least as normal as this age group is capable of.
