Does having a wide and low batting stance such as Brendan Ryan or Albert Puljos .....or a narrow and tall stance such as Evan Longoria , give you more power.?
I have a theory on optimal batting stance width but I think there is more of a correlation between shoulder hip seperation and batspeed than just batting stance width alone.
Theres too many guys that start either really narrow or really wide and are still good hitters for that to be a deciding factor imo.
Its not so much of a stance you need to look at, you need to look at the plane of Longoria's swing and Pujols's swing and contact point, they are both practically identical. While both start different, they both get to a lag swing point. They don't roll over or have the "swing down on the ball" approach. They pull their lead elbow in to create a hitter's box to allow for maximum lag inside to hitting zone. I have also attatched one of Ichiro so you can see three guy with different starting points, all getting to a good hitter's box position.
Like Sultanofswat said, it has to be just right, and what may be just right for Longoria, may not be right for Pujols, as long as you get to a good contact point
