TR...Sox lost 11-4. They'll get those Indians tomorrow.

A couple of Cub fans close to some closet writers have been spreading the rumors about the White Sox.

Whatever the rumor is, especially if it is a bad rumor coupled with bad karma, don't believe it! Likely started by Cub fans after Zambrano was beaten by the Reds today.

Question: Why do Cub pitchers pitch to Dunn?

Answer: To see how far he can hit a baseball!

Gees.
When I saw an outsider (TRHit) start a thread that seemed meant to get sox fans goat, I was ready to write something about it being only one game.

But then I read the psot and beenthere's after it and the same old question comes to mind.....

Why would a sox fan one year removed from winning it all answer a psot about his team with commentary on the Cubs? Are all sox fans obsessed with The Cubs or is it just a few?

Tuzigott,

Either get your stories straight, or your beers straight. Your references to Brant Brown and Leon Durham are just old, tired and redundant. In addition, Falstaff was never a sponsor of any Cub game that I'm aware of. Northsiders with more than $.50 in their pocket wouldn't drink that poison. That's a soutside delicacy all the way.
Those Cub errors in post season almost seemed like it was the Black Sox on the field from the early 1900's. Comiskey and the Tribune. Both can RIP! It looked like the Indians were going to break the record today from the Tigers opening day scoring record against the Sox back when Cell Block field opened however many years ago. I think the Tigers scored 19 or 20 runs in the season opener against the Sox the year Cell Block Field opened up and they finally knocked down that rats nest of what was called Comiskey Park.
buntandrun:

That rats nest was a heckuvalot better to watch and enjoy a game than the sewer smelling wrigley!

rosy,

C'mon don't pretend you wern't around to watch Pabst Blue Ribbon AND Falstaff commercials on WGN in the early 50's! At that time they sponsored EVERY telecast...Sox and cubs. Jack Brickhouse broadcast and drank both!
Soxnole,

Of course I was around. I've been around since the days that a guy walked around Wrigley with a megaphone announcing balls and strikes and the score. Almost before electricity.

But honestly, I don't remember Brickhouse, Vince Lloyd, the great Jack Quinlan or any of those announcers pushing Falstaff during Cub games. I clearly remember Hamm's, "the beer refeshing" Hamm's!!!!, maybe even Pabst. I really think that Falstaff was during the Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall era at Comiskey. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Hey FBD, how about some help here?

Also, I resent your reference to the horse trough urinals at Wrigley. Those beauties, along with the Smokie Link carts that caught fire at least once a week should be given landmark status. LOL.

My memories are of Vince and Lou talking about "God's Country" and of course Old Style. I guess I'm just a whippersnapper.

The comparison between Comiskey Park and Wrigely is so unfair to Comiskey. Make fun of Wrigley for a few crumbles of concrete falling.....but as for Comiskey, the whole thing was going to collapse and was about to be condemned! I don't think anyone is sorry to see that shack gone.

I've said it before Rosy....if you want to go to a mall, there is Woodfield and the like (complete with the Cell One type food court) but if you want to go to a real ballpark and watch a game with a beer and a dog, Wrigley stands alone. If anyone is that worried about having to go to the bathroom often at the ballpark, maybe you better talk to your Dr. about Flowmax.

Those horse trough urinals are more necessary at Wrigley than The Cell Block because.......well, let's just say Cub fans are a little bigger than sox fans (as applicable to the urinals.)

ClevelandDad, I'll bet the hitting (and now also the pitching & throwing) forum could (and probably will) argue with you about this.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure we lead the entire HSBBW site (perhaps the world?) in locked topics.

From what I've read across this site, I don't think we're actually any more or less rude than anywhere else, unless you wander into one of the Cub/Sox minefields. Polite tends to go out the window when the discussion turns to the local pro teams. But otherwise, most of the people here are pretty willing to help those of us who need it by sharing their experiences.

Of course, TRHit pretty much just poked the bully in the eye by starting this topic. He knew 100% for sure that he was going to get lots of feedback (and not all of it pleasant). That's why he started it.

It makes for interesting reading, no?

Mike - you make great points! I wasn't defending TrHit BTW. You are right, starting a post like that in any forum is going to get some bullets directed your way...

You actually make my point for me however...

Why is that exactly? That is all I am asking anyone to consider. This forum sometimes reads like a cigar-smoking gentlemen's club imho. That is great for the gentlemen's club except we also have highschool aged kids and perhaps others who may be intimidated by that imho. I am not telling anyone how to act or what to say and believe me I am no prude. There are many topics in here I have participated in and would like to continue so in the future (if I am not considered an outsider).

Also, people keep telling me it is just friendly banter going on in here. It doesn't always come across that way imho. If it is friendly I would hate to see what nasty is. Please consider the entire audience and not just the select few in the "club" who seem to continually go at it - thanks.

I will now stand back and put my bullet proof vest on. The last time I suggested decorum I was told to bug-off. Not necessary to treat people that way imho.

Nice to meet everyone here BTW and hope that I along with others can be welcome in the future Smile

Now back on topic. If the White Sox take it to the Indians today, please feel free to stop by the Ohio forum and give me the business - otherwise I may just have to update this thread one more time Big Grin

Feel free to add your comments to whatever you wish. Yes, this forum has had some issues within the past year or so, but there are a lot of terrific HS baseball fans and players that would welcome your input. I'm one of those. Jump on board.

Thanks rosy - that is most appreciated Smile I probably stretched things a bit to make a point. I wouldn't post in here if I felt there were not good baseball people in here to talk to. Thanks again Smile

Woody - I'll sit in your chair on the condition that I get to control the switch Big Grin
Cleveland,
My sincere apologies if you felt like I made you feel unwelcome in this forum.....as if I can tell anyone that.

My remark regarding TRHit as an "outsider" was strictly regarding his post which IMHO was meant to be infamatory. I was standing up for my little brothers, the sox fans who sometimes can't take care of themselves.

Primarily the heated discussions tend to be about the inadequecies of the white sox and a few others regarding a person or two who who seemed to have a hard time remembering his name. Other than that, I don't think I or many others are all that R-Rated in content or manner.

Take care.

FastballDad - I appreciate that as well Smile My apologies for seeming prudish or holier-than-thou - I assure you I am not Smile

I am one of the biggest lurkers in this forum and a big fan actually Smile Some of the best topics have been started in here.

Lets get back on topic Smile Seriously, anybody have an Indians/White Sox update?
Last season, the Indians scored the second most runs in the AL. The Sox were right behind having scored only two runs less. The story is usually never about offense in baseball. It helps for sure, but without pitching, you cannot win. The story of these first two games is that the thing that led the Sox to the WS - their pitching - has failed them.
