The Whitney Young Sophmores now advance to the CPL City Championship with a perfect game performance over Harlan Academy winning 13-0. The winning pitcher was the lefty Andrew Platt who recorded 8 consecutive strike outs. The pitching line for Platt was 4 IP; 0 Runs, O Hits, 9-K's, O-BB.

Jason Ormond made an appearance and finished the game pitching the final inning and striking out the side in the top of the fifth inning. Of the fifteen outs in the game, after the fourth out was recorded (in the second inning) there were eleven consecutive strikeouts (for the game) leaving Harlan standing at the plate. The pitching line for Ormond was 1 IP; 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 3-K's, 0-BB.

Young next plays the winner of the Lane vs. Von Steuben game. The City Championship game will be played on Tuesday at Northeastern Illinois University.

Young scored 13 Runs on 9 Hits and 3 Errors. Harlan stranded no runners on base as no walks were issued by Young and Harlan did not get a hit.

It was the perfect game!

Whitney Young Varsity Head Coach Tyronne Slaughter has announced that Class of 2009 basketball standout Marcus Jordan is transfering to Young from Loyola Academy in September 2007.

Chicago must be totally different than the rest of the State. If I were to do this, I'd be charged and investigated for recuriting. As a head coach, I'm not allowed to discuss my school, our program etc. with any potential student until they are enrolled and reside here. Chicago should win every state tournament in every sport if these practices are the norm. (Of course if he is already enrolled at Young then ...)

Coach and Lineshot,

You guys are making huge assumptions..you aren't considering the factors in Marcus Jordan's family situation.

Jordan M is making this school transfer because of the divorce in his family.

There have been rumours flying around regarding several different schools..public, private, parochial. Juanita Jordan LIVES in the city and Marcus lives with her most of time.

That is what brought about the transfer of schools. He wasn't recruited. Haha, not to mention the fact that Marcus' girlfriend goes to Whitney Young as well.

I am sure it's not a matter of "discussing" a program, on the part of the coach. It's clearly something that lot's of people have been talking about for the last few months since the divorce.

You have to take Ormond with a grain of salt because he makes everything sound like a press release of sorts. The word was already "out" before Mr. Ormond's (very unofficial) press release on behalf of Whitney Young.

On a slightly different note, I'm looking forward to watching the City Championship game, Whitney Young VS. Lane Tech, at Wrigley Field today. The city players are incredibly lucky to get to play in Wrigley/Comiskey for these games.

I can't imagine what would be going through my head as a high school player who was anticipating playing in a venue like this, really cool.

Should be a great game. I saw the Lane VS Mather game (great game) and the Whitney VS Clemente Game (another great game) on Saturday. Very exciting stuff and two good teams.

I'm making no assumptions at all. IN MY AREA THIS IS RECRUITING. We are not allowed to discuss any of this stuff with a student or parent until that student is enrolled. The family situation is not unique to Chicago. Heartace can be found in the largest and small school district. It doesn't change the rules I have to follow. Again, I did preface my statement with a statement suggesting that perhaps the rules are different from Chicago. If so and again, no one "down state" should ever beat a Chicago team since the playing field is not level.

Coach,

He is enrolled. This process has been going for awhile..it didn't just happen out of the blue.

You mean heartache? What does heartache have to do with anything? The kid changed schools because he's going to be living with his Mom, in the city.

They used to live in Highland Park and he went to Loyola..now he's moved and Loyola is very far away.

I don't understand what you are so upset about this..

Why do you assume he was recruited?

Why do you assume that he is not enrolled at the school?

EXACTLY! THE POST SAYS "IS TRANSFERING" NOT "HAS TRANSFERED!" This along with stating that the "coach" announced it. You now state he is already enrolled. THAT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE! Coho, there is much more to the subject of Mark's posts and "recruiting" claims by posters and former posters and I've been up to my ears in it since I'm a moderator. I've been taken to task and have had my program mentioned to the IHSA as a "potential dirty program" simply because I didn't turn Mark in for previous posts. To be sure, this will be submitted to the IHSA by those very same people. Everything is fine if he has already transfered and is enrolled. To be blunt, otherwise I could give a rat's behind less.

Post Quote by Mark Ormand pasted here to support my position:

Marcus Jordan is transfering to Young from Loyola Academy in September 2007.

Coach,

It also says, in boldprint no less, that it is "official". you are taking things out of context.

Mark Ormond is not an "official" at the school but I can tell you that it is, indeed, official. Transferring in the context of all this, can also mean that the intent is confirmed..it suggests that the process has been initiated.

This announcement was necessary in order to put rumours etc. to rest.

It's not like he was any old student..MJ's sons have a heavy spotlight on them and there has been much speculation about what school he was going to decide on. As you can imagine, the school has been recieving calls from the media etc. and they wanted this to stop.

I don't think Juanita and the folks in the administration at Whitney are stupid enough to throw this kid into a shaky situation. the principal, Ms. Kenner is a very sharp and honest person and runs that school like a mother watching over her kids, you have to know her to really appreciate what I'm saying.

Think about it...It's not like Whitney Young's basketball program is knocking teams out, year after year...the school's main focus is academics.

As a Whitney Young parent let me be the first to welcome the Jordan's to our Dolphin family. My son has been on various sports teams playing against and with Marcus Jordan for many years, begining when he was at the Menomonee Club. Jason also played basketball against Marcus when he was a part of the Independent Schools League and attended Bannockburn and my son was attending Chicago City Day School.

Those of us at Young understand that this high school attracts many of the best musicians, chess players, s****r players, baseball players and basketball players and a whole lot more. We look forward to seeing Marcus on our home court!

The basketball program is Par Excellance and the baseball program is rapidly gaining in stature. Love to chat more, but I have got to get to Wrigley Field for today's game against Lane Tech. It is my opinion (biased) that under the able direction of Dr. Joyce Kenner this school is second to none.

The buses are leaving for Wrigley soon so no more time for idle chat.

We hope to see all of our supporters there!

Who really cares where MJ's kid goes to play bball? All you have done is give MO another opening to issue more self promotional fodder in the name of the mother ship WYHS. The problem with this web site (in MO's) eyes is that nobody would log in to, let alone read the WYHS we are so fantasitc web site. It is kind of like a little puppy that wants to keep untying your shoes, cute and novel at first, but you will find that if you ignore it long enought it will go pee on a different tree.
The is absolutely great news for all of us on the forum. Now we can all hear about how Whitney Young has the best basketball team in the city/state/country/world/universe/galaxy with the brightest student- athletes in the city/state/country/world/universe/galaxy. Unlike the other chumps who have to wait until the morning newspaper comes out to find out how Young did in basketball, we can get the scoop and details from Mark and maybe even find out what MJ bought at the concession stand at halftime. That's nice, we can turn this into a basketball forum for the winter months when no one is even thinking about baseball.

Thank you Mark we truly appreciate it!!
Fast...I would say it is a school with already high achievers...which is great....but they do have all kinds of top notch programs, athletic and academic, too.

I don't know Ormand, but there are a bunch of sore losers in here.

Whitney Young is one of the BEST of the "however many" high schools in Chicagoland.

Simple fact of life.

Good for them.
Number 9.....Number 9......Number 9,

I shall Let It Be.........

When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, Let it be.

And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, Let it be.

Let it be, Let it be, Let it be, Let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, Let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree, there will be an answer, Let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see, there will be an answer.

Let it be.

Let it be, Let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me, shine until tomorrow, Let it be. I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, Let it be.

Let it be, Let it be, .....

It will be what it will be.

Finally, .....We will just have to wait and see.

I have no control over any of that.

So....I will just Let it Be.

Great idea.....I've Got A Feeling that you will find the music to the lyrics on an album by the same name. Phil Spector was the Producer who some feel was criminal in his over orchestration of the music.

The very solemn lyrics give us a great oedipal feeling.....actually the lyrics to that one are by McCartney and most believe that he wrote it in reflection of his Mother who died of breast cancer when he was just a boy at the age of fourteen.

Let It Be was the third in a series of songs alluding to his Mother.

Listen to Yesterday and Lady Madonna to get more of that feeling.

Who would win if the WYHS baseball & basketball teams played against the Mike Ditka of today along side the frozen headless body of Ted Williams? And prior to the games, we can relax the "transfer" rules an allow one at large WYHS transfer. Maybe someone more creative than I, can come up with some really clever lyrics. I've had my fun, now its time to ...
Well you know,...... some may say "I've Had Enough" but, for me the work of the Beatles catalogue provides an insightful look into it our social history. Their music shook youth, gender and the world. The band inspired and changed popular culture at a time when a whole lot of nonsense was going on.

Those legendary four were not simply teen idols, they were brilliant muscial innovators who created timeless music that lives on today.

The groups popularity has never faded and today they are bigger than four decades ago when they first hit the charts. They likely need no help from me to provide marketing support or to promote them as they became one of the twentieth centuries greatest cultural forces.

Their connection to baseball some might wonder.....

The Beatles opened their August 1965 United States tour with a spectacular concert at Shea Stadium, in New York playing before 56,000 screaming fans. Of course on August 20, 1965 the Beatles played at Comiskey Park.

Helter Skelter, the band's heavy metal scorcher had not been released yet, but indeed it was a lots of smoke and ash and plenty of interconnected dots that might appear to be disconnected........I loved playing it at those baseball games at UIC when I was behind the microphone. But the song, inked by McCartney is so misunderstood!

"Till I See YOU Again....!!
