Young passed the test defeating Lane Tech for the win in overtime 22-14. It was a CPS showdown with the two 5-0 unbeaten rivals facing off. This was Lane's Homecoming and the game was played at Lane. The stadium was packed with a raucous crowd that was either cheering and jeering on every play!
Young was trailing in the fourth quarter 14-6, but scored on an interception. It appeared that Young would get the win with a drive toward the end zone as the clock wound down, but then fumbled the ball away. In the overtime period, Young quarterback DJ Purnell scored the winning touchdown and then had to be carried off the field on a stretcher by paramedics. It was a precautionary move due to the severity of the hit, but all indications are that Purnell is OK.
The game determined the Illini Redbird Championship. Great team win for Young!
