Very true.
Here are some unscientific facts for you
Florida beat 5 teams in the top 25 this season. The average rank is 14.
They also have a loss to (at the time) an unranked team that did finish at 20.
Oklahoma beat 5 teams in the top 25 this season.
The average rank is 15.
They also have a loss to the number ranked team.
Utah beat 3 teams in the top 25 this season.
The average rank is 10.
They did not have any losses but had 5 wins over teams that did not finish over .500.
But Oklahoma also had 5 wins over teams that did not finish over .500.
Basically these numbers don't mean jack squat because you can take any set of numbers and use them to prove a point. Each season starts out with MOST of the teams knowing they automatically do not have a chance to win a national championship because of who they are. Ask any person in any type of competition and all they want is a fair chance at competing. College football does not give this chance to everyone.

If Florida wins (and they will):
1) Florida
2) Utah
3) USC
4) Texas
5) Oklahoma
I can't give Utah #1 based on how the system works plus their schedule. I'll give them #2 even though I don't truly believe they're the second best team.
USC may be the best team in the country.
Texas drops to #4 for struggling with a Big 10 team.
Oklahoma #5 for getting to the championship.
If the sun rises in the west and Rush Limbaugh and Al Franken kiss and dance into the sunset together and Oklahoma wins, switch Oklahoma with Florida.
I see a close game in the 21-17 range before Florida puts 10-14 points on Oklahoma in the 4th quarter.

3. USC

Still stand my earlier prediction and ranking.
Good article by Chris Dufresne in the LA Times about OK. Sooners claim the Big 12 offenses were so good that the numbers don't matter. They'll again be facing a very good offense in Florida. My question is, have they lined up against a worthy defense yet this year? TCU was arguably the best one they've faced. I guess we'll find out the answer tomorrow night. Offense Sooner, defense later
I think an even bigger issue for OU is their defense. Ranked #54 in the nation. They average giving up over 24 points a game. Yes they score alot and they score quickly which gives their opponents more opportunities to score.
I believe OU has a NC caliber offense , I dont think there is any doubt about that. I believe Florida does as well. It will come down to which defense plays like a NC caliber defense. That is why I give the edge to UF because I believe their defense is better.
I hope its a great game. I really do not care who wins because I can not stand Urban or Bob.
I am leaning more and more towards wanting Utah to get at least a share of the NC.

Don't final rankings have to wait until we have the score? If they go into overtime, why would either team drop from the top two spots? If they were the two best teams going into the game and play even for 60 minutes, does one of them suddenly become worse than the three teams you have jumping over them?
These debates are so much fun and are the best reason why we shouldn't have a playoff. if we really knew the winner, we wouldn't be able to argue about it for months at a time.
Utah was definately impressive. Texas was literally one play away from defeating Texas Tech and being ranked no. 1. On the other hand, Florida, USC and OU all got beat handily in their losses.
Texas only had pride to play for against Ohio State while Ohio State was trying to avoid three cosecutive bowl losses, and was clearly more motivated. Plus, I think there is a secret clause in the Texas BCS contract which requires Texas to be behind and win in the last 30 seconds (Rose Bowl last play field goal over Michigan, Vince Young scramble against USC in Rose Bowl, Colt McCoy TD pass against Ohio State in Fiesta).
If you had to rank which team is the most watchable, and has the most entertaining games to watch, hands down Texas is no. 1.
Here's my real final five:
1. Winner of BCS Nat'l Championship game
2. Texas (They already got screwed once in the Big 12 tiebreaker, and this decision will be made on the entire season's body of work, not just the last game)
3. USC (a shame Texas couldn't play USC again in the Rose or Fiesta Bowls-- that would have been a better game than the national championship game)
[Ultimately Texas gets more votes than USC because of harder schedule and better loss]
4. Utah
5. Loser of BCS National Championship game
Just to show you how waek that national championship game is, the loser will have 2 losses and be the first team in recent memory that didn't end up in top 3.

That just goes to show how weak last year's national championship game was... When the winner had two losses!
If Florida wins
1.Florida
2.Texas
3.Utah
4.Oklahoma
5.USC
If Oklahoma wins
1.Oklahoma
2.Texas
3.Utah
4.USC
5.Florida
So I've got Texas and Utah glued in at 2 and 3. The rest all depends on the National Championship game.

Last year's game was so bad I had already forgotten about it!!!
I did a quick check and in the BCS era, about half the games featured two unbeaten teams, and most of the other half had one unbeaten team against a one loss team. Two one loss teams was an exception, and LSU as a 2-loss winner was unique.
Last year, Ohio State dropped from no. 1 to no. 5 following its loss to LSU. Most years, the winner and loser end up 1 & 2. When you anticipate a big drop for the loser like this year, it means the game was weak without clear consensus on which two teams should have played. In 2007, Kansas was the only 1-loss team in the top 10, and so the BCS had to decide which among many 2-loss teams deserved to play for the national championship.
