My college conference tournament was a four-team, double-elimination set up. My sophomore year, we were the #4 seed. We beat the #1 seed in game one, the #2 seed beat the #3 seed. The following day, the #1 seed beat the #3 seed, eliminating them. We lost to the #2 seed. The following day, we showed up to play the #1 seed in an elimination game for the rights to the championship against the #2 seed. The weather conditions weren't ideal - although we had played regular season games in worse. The conference commissioner cancelled the game. We were informed 20 minutes later that the conference would not allow the tournament to be potentially played an additional day (we were never given a reason). Because they were the only undefeated team left, the #2 seed was "declared" the winners of the tournament.

A week later, the NCAA selection committee handed out three bids to regionals for our conference - the #2 seed was the automatic bid, the #1 seed (who was ranked in the Top 10 nationally all season) was given a bid, and we were given a bid. When seedings came out, the NCAA determined that the #1 seed would be seeded highest amongst the three schools, with us being second and the #2 seed/declared conference tournament champion being below us. The #2 seed went two-and-out in the regionals, we lost in the semifinals, and the #1 seed lost in the National Championship game.

I don't know all the details about the IHSA's decision, but if it's anything like what happened to my team that year, be aware that cluelessness unfortunately continues beyond high school.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Especially after the administrator was quoted in our local paper as saying "We only play on Sunday as a last-resort." Gee, seems you've found last resort IHSA! Now, if the IHSA wouldn't piss off facilities, maybe they'd be able to play at nicer facilities who can accommodate that type of weather. There are multiple baseball stadiums throughout the state who have FieldTurf.

-Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville

-GCS Ballpark

-Rent One Ballpark

-University of Illinois

-The Corn Huskers in Bloomington-Normal

-Pretty sure Illinois-Chicago

I'll bet there's more. But I know why the top three are automatically eliminated.. "too long of a drive." BS

In MA a high school was forced to start a section final with eight impact players missing due to the SATs. The game was rained out Thursday. It was rescheduled to overlap SATs. The state has a policy of academic scheduling trumps athletic scheduling. Yet they wouldn't move the game until later in the day. The calvary arrived mid game and pulled it out.

Ahh hasn't the rule been a game must be 5 innings for it to be official since the 1800's? I don't know why this is the dumbest thing that has ever happened in the history of mankind. The game went 5 innings!! It is official and over. This is nothing new. Secondly, the 3rd place game has always been more of a novelty. My newspaper article says nothing about a coin flip so you guys are just making that up. Both teams receive 3rd place medals as per the terms and conditions manual. The 3rd place guys just lost out to mother nature. They are not the first and will not be the last. Peoria is a great facility to play baseball. The can not control when high and low pressure systems slam into each other creating precipitation on the same weekend the tourney is scheduled.
