This will be one of the shortest living threads of all time. But who do you think ought to get it?

I like Colt McCoy for the Heisman and expect him to have a great NFL career. To be honest, I have never seen the defensive player from Nebraska play.

I have only seen highlight clips of Toby Gearhart. I wonder if baseball will be his ultimate sport? How about that for turning this thread into a baseball one? Big Grin

I think Ingram should win it. He is a big reason his team is playing for the NC. I dont think they are if he does not have the season he has had.

I think Colt McCoy is a close second and I wouldnt have a problem if he won it at all. I like him for the same reasons I like Ingram.

Out of all these players I think Suh has the most upside for the next level. He is a dominating type of player. Tremendous physical talent with a great motor.

I hate I didnt get to see Gearhart play more. I only got the chance to see him play one game and it was against ND. I love the way he runs the ball. He also seems like one heck of a young man when he is interviewed on TV.

Tebow was hurt bigtime by the loss to Bama. I think if he has a big game against Bama and they win he is in great shape. But Ingram probably won it with that performance. At least I hope so.
Ingram will win, his SEC championship game performance was the deciding factor that will tilt it his way.
My choice? Loved the Gearhart kid the one game I saw him play. Tough as nails, they couldn't bring him down. The courseload he's taking just makes him more impressive as a true Student/athlete.

It's difficult for baseball to compete with football for a multi-sport player who has Gerhart's skills...a trek through the minors versus the immediate playing time, money and endorsements that football offers.

Immediate playing time, money and endorsements????

"Gerhart has deceptive speed (4.55), but can't consistently turn the corner. Gerhart also does not have a second gear, and has limited experience pass blocking. His route running is inconsistent, at best and he has a poor feel for reading coverage. Gerhart is a player without a position; he is not fast enough to be a future back and not big enough to be a fullback."
What I was impressed with the most was the quality of these five young men. Everyone of them are outstanding young men that every school can be proud of. Listening to them speak was a pleasure. You could make a case for everyone of them.

I was touched by the way Mark was humbled by winning the award. It was great to see a young man win something and not act like a clown. He won it with grace and accepted it with humility. You could tell he wanted to win it for Alabama more than for himself. I think he will run like a wild beast in the NC game.

I was very proud of the way those five guys represented themselves and their schools. They are all class acts imo.

Totally agree. I did not know much about Mark Ingram other than seeing him play a few times. I am now very impressed with this young man after the gracious and humble manner in which he won this award yesterday. A truly deseving young man imho.

Let's resume this conversation in two years at this time.

Yes he is a soph. I saw the story about his dad who is in prison and getting ready to be sentenced I believe to around 7 years. It was a very touching moment when he mentioned his dad during his acceptance speech. The tears and emotion he showed and the humility was special. Its very hard not to pull for a young man that shows that type of class in a situation like that.

The kid couldnt thank enough people , even though he sure tried.
When I watch Suh play all I can think of is Reggie White. But Suh is even bigger , stronger , faster and more dominating than White was at this time in their careers. If I had to choose one of these guys in the draft there is no way I pass on Suh. I see him as an immediate impact player in the NFL.

I think Gerhart will be a very good professional player.
Suh really didn't have a chance because of offensive bias and because of Nebraska's 4 loss record. I have no problem with any of the 5 kids winning as they are all class acts. It was nice to see the classy acceptance speech by Ingram. They really should fess up and just say the Heisman is for the best offensive player in the country.
I agree. That performance was the most dominating game changing performance I saw all year and its not even close. I watched him play against VT and he was double and triple teamed the entire game. He is a player that demands a game plan for. He makes everyone around him a better player.

Tx-Husker its always been an offensive award as you well know. Woodson got it because he also returned kicks and played some WR. If not he wouldnt have gotten when he did imo.

He'll be a 1st overall pick.

Typical east coast bias with Gerhart coming in 2nd. Not quite as obvious as the year Gino (who) Toretta won the Hesiman and Marshall Faulk came in 2nd

You know the thing about it is many people had no idea who he was until the last four or five games of the season. I kept hearing about him but didnt get the chance to see him play until the USC game. I was really impressed with him. I watched the Stanford ND game just to get another look at him and their future Heisman contender Luck the QB. And the guy was amazing. He is a fun guy to watch play.

I have to believe that if Stanford was undefeated and playing for the NC and Alabama had Stanfords record Toby would have won it. But I could be wrong.
I don't see Gerhart as having next level ability. He reminds me of Touchdown Tommy Vardell who was a bust from Stanford. I could be wrong but that is the impression I get. I think he should stick to baseball.

Suh indeed is impressive but he is no sure thing in the NFL either. Cortney Brown from Penn State had a dominating career at Penn State and turned out to be another bust in the NFL after being selected first overall.

Teebow may have some luck as a fullback but I see him as a late round draft choice at best.

I like McCoy and believe he will have a fine NFL career.

Mark Ingram reminds me of Emmit Smith. He knows how to gain yardage.
Gerhardt was my sentimental pick, too. Mainly because of the baseball connection. I will say that Ingram, who came from nowhere and wasn't even considered a legitimate candidate just a few weeks ago, won some fans last night with how he conducted himself. Me included, he just came across as a super guy, and the kind of teammate you hope your son has.
Same here Wayne. Now can you imagine how hard those guys are going to block for him? Did you hear the way he made sure he talked about his offensive line with tears in his eyes?

When Coach Saban walked over to him and gave him a hug you could see tears in Coach Sabans eyes as well. What that young man did was show everyone else what class truly is.
