I was having one of those moments that started the Unusally Unusal Forum!
Whooooooooo Hoooooooo!
Last year a parent from another state asked the Grand Pooh Baah “Bob” if we said this word in Tennessee!
This could be the most feared word in Tennessee baseball. When you hear this phrase uttered from the opposing side of the field it means something real bad just happened to your team and can even mean disaster. But if issued from your side of the field you can watch eyes bulge and hair being pulled by your opponents.
This is not a word you want to hear on the receiving end with bases loaded and two outs when the game is tied in the 7/9th inning or a deep drive to the wall with bases loaded and two outs or a full count when your down to your last out.
This word was heard by the British in the Revolutionary War, The Mexicans in the fight for Texas and has been passed down through generations of Tennesseans. If you are giving the phrase instead of receiving the phrase it can be the perfect word to blanket a moment of utter joy. But I would stress again that you don’t want to be on the other end of a Whooooooo Hooooooo!
This word has put fear in the hearts of players and fans in North West Tennessee and has been known to be heard from the bleachers in Middle/East Tennessee too! Its is a word to be heard on occasions of the birth of your first child, you just married the girl of your dreams, your mother in law has lock jaw, or your favorite baseball team won the world series.
It is my favorite word to shake up an opponent in a game and you can regularly hear my mother let it loose on a great pitch, catch or hit by one of her grandsons.
So the next time your son or team does something to warrant a Whooooooo Hoooooo, just go ahead and scream it out load and watch the sad faces on the receiving end. But I caution you to be very careful when handing out a Whooooooo Hooooooo because it can be sent back at you later in a game. That could be disastrous! Use it sparingly!
I will stress again that you don’t want to be on the wrong end of a Whooooooo Hooooooo!
