Quote: I don't see Jorge throwing anyone out and speed kills. If the Yanks don't get the 3 run homer.

Especially in the American League w/ DH and the MLB caught stealing percent of 25%, Jorge's arm will not play that much of a factor. I think you are right that the homerun offense of the Yankees can compensate for any stolen base disadvantage "perceived."

I look forward to a Dodger/Yankee WS. The Dodger's have a tougher road though.

I agree, but I think two teams from the same town would make things really interesting!

I'm predicting a return to the late 70's matchups between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the (gulp) New York Yankees.

The 70's are a minor footnote in the rivalry. The two teams met in the WS only twice in the 70's.

From 1949 to 1956 they met in five world series.
Gimme the Phillies and the Angels.

Phillies starting pitching and post-season confidence will overcome the Dodgers. ManRam is losing it now that he doesn't have his magical "juicy juice" and will be "black hole" in their lineup.

Angels starting pitching will match their Yankee conterparts and their team speed and situational hitting will make this Yankees team look old and out of shape. Scoscia (sp?) will also outmanage Girardi.

That's probably FOX's least desirable match-up, but I think it would make for an exciting WS.

WAG!

Yet not a minor footnote in my life. That's about the time that I really began watching baseball and when I solidified my dislike for the Yankees.

Was not a fan of Reggie Jackson standing in the box watching his home runs, did not like him batting down the double play ball with his hands (no call!), can't stand Bucky "f-n" Dent (oh yeah, that was against the Red Sox)

All these repressed memories are coming back. I might need to see my therapist.
Tough call on both series, but with a gun to my dome I'll pick the Dodgers and the Angels. Very impressed with the Dodgers lineup. Almost overnight growth to stardom by Loney, Kemp, Ethier, Kershaw. Throw in Ramirez, Furcal a good bench, great bullpen and a great manager.

Angels, well just because my son goes to school in SoCal. LOL.

I have those exact same thoughts CD. I'm not really sure that the Dodgers can get it done against the Phillies, but would love to see Torre have his chance as you said. I also have to root for the Angels though for the obvious reasons. Regardless, I just don't want to see the Yankees win the WS!! Smile

He has developed some of the best hitters in the game over the last several years in Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, etc., etc.

And two of those hitters currently play for...the Dodgers!
This is the best Yankee team in years. I expect the Yankees to destroy the Angels in a 4 game sweep. I don't want a long series. I want Yankees to knock the Angels out quickly and thunk they will with the best offense in major league baseball. I don't buy into the Angels having the Yankees number since they split the season series this year and Yanks won 4 of last 5 games. Yankee starting pithing is the best it's been in 10 years.

Philly will knock off the Dodgers in 5.

The best series matchup will be

Yankees vs Phillies.

I mean this as a compliment. Spoken like a true Jersey boy.

I hope the Yankees crumble like blue cheese!

Go Sox in 2010! Razz

Arod isn't as tight as a drum as he has been in previous years. Getting the monkey off his back with the 0-38 LOB was big but he will be facing better pitching so he's gotta continue to step up. Same with Teixeira. He gotta step up too. Teixeira didn't have a great series offensively but got the big hits and made a couple of big time defensive plays (which seems to be the norm for him) that might've saved that series.

You hit the nail on the head here CD.
Phillies fans were furious when Manuel got the job over Leyland. Seemed like Manuel couldn't string two sentences together.

3 years later his players love him, the fans like him, and the Phils win the big one. It's amazing to see the players talk and joke with him during the games. Two years ago Burrell was benched and he's joking with Manuel during the games. Same type of situation with Lidge this year. He is truly a players coach who shows a lot of respect for his players and gets alot back.

A definite biased pick: fills and Angels in the WS.

Teixeira played well against the Red Sox last year. He can handle the situation.

Funny in Jersey 1/2 the state are Yankees fans and the other 1/2 are Phillie fans.... that would make a great WS
Some great pitching duals going on in the playoff series.

Any combo for a WS would be great for the local folks, Phillies/Yanks, Dodgers/Angels.

I have a feeling it's the year of the Yankee, I don't see how anyone can stop them, great hitting, great pitching and Rivera. Lots of chemistry too, something you don't always see on a Yankee team.

No surprise teams this year. The 4 best teams in baseball during the regular season still playing.

As for the Yankees, they're tough to beat in the late innings and have had s lot of walkoff wins this year
