That's a great question Doc. I think maybe there just needs to be a little more regular activity started in here and then maybe more people (Canadians/others) will post. Of course, I am not a Canuck, so I may not count. If you come up with good topics, people will come. JMO. I certainly enjoy visitng
Yeah just because this is a Canadian forum doesn't mean only Canadians can post. Actually since it's hockey season we're gonna need ALOT of help in here!!!!!
Uh oh! I am in trouble if the subject turns to hockey. Last time I followed it was 1980 when the US defeated the USSR which some said was the greatest team on the planet at the time. Kurt Russell starred in a movie about Herb Brooks and that team which was pretty entertaining.
I really don't follow hockey much, although I have a feeling that I'll get more into it this year then in years past because when the strike happened it made me realise that I took the NHL for granted, and I never really noticed just how much I was missing it until a Saturday night rolled along at Urbana and there was no talk about hockey at all. Kinda strange!!
Have we answered the question yet? Are there only a half-dozen Canadian memebers as you suggest. We may have to start a recruiting campaign north of the border
I know that, but I mean recruiting for areas where there is not alot of knowledge about things such as elite teams or showcase organizations.
There are a lot of great ball players in our Province alone that don't know anything about things such as Perfect Game or even how to get on to an elite team such as the Thunderbirds or Team Ontario INC. just to name a few.
I alone can give you a laundry list of guys who could of went off to play at the DI level in College but they never did because they had no clue what to do or where to start. All they did was play small town ball and that was that.
That has changed a lot in the last 2 years. You have so mny teams that do these events and go to Floida for early spring training. I can't even count the number of Elite teams that offer this kind of stuff now. There are many college showcases and teams like the T-Birds and Team Ontario Inc spend a lot of time placing players all over the US. Our team always had local colleges come and give a talk to the guys and tell them what to expect.
I played for a small town 2 summer's ago, it's still bad, trust me. When you play for a town of under 500 you don't get the flyers about this elite team and that elite team or this showcase comming up in this area or that area. Even my hometown is very, very bad at knowing what all is going on in the baseball world and it's population is around 15,000. Heck even if you play in London if you're not on the Badgers or the Reds you really don't know about these camps or showcases.
I know there are many showcases etc. out there, but not enough people know about them. Especially in the smaller sized towns.
I still don't hear about Try-outs for Elite teams other then the Badgers Program, and I look in the papers and our Associations WebSite and still nothing, no links to Team Ontario INC or any other, we have a link to Ontario Baseball Association, and even when I've been on there I can't find any info for Showcases, or elite teams in the surrounding area.
You talk to people in this area about Baseball and it's ya we got a local team, and then there's the Badgers, no talk about Team Ontario, unless it's I wonder how you get an invite or how they knew about tryouts.
Of course every area will be a little different, seeing from you are compared to where I am is quite a bit different, I imagine it'sa different take from someone in say a little town in Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
Hello Im from the West Coast of Canada. Small town near Vancouver British Columbia, I agree small town baseball teams dont hear about these more elite teams, No one tells you about them you have to do the research yourself and by the time you find out about them bam your to old.
Yes I understand. In my area you have atleast 20 Elite teams. Most of them very good with decent web sites. http://www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=niagararebels The above site is the one we played for the last 2 seasons. If you get a chance they have links to a lot of teams that post events. I always check PG's site. We never went to any but lots of guys I know do. One friend of my son plays in Arkansas and he used to grab 4-5 guys and drive to some events. PG would put them on a team and showcase them. He played for Team O Inc in his last year and I believe they went to the area codes. A lot of these events will put you on a team.
YAYA I believe PG has events for guys over 18. Not totally sure. I have a daughter in a place called Vanderhoof BC and that is in the middle of now where. 3000 population.
Doc_K...I see they closed the forums on the WMBL...too bad there are so many immature posters. I hope they get it worked out. Looks like a good league.
I haven't been on to check that lately, I kind of gave up on it due to the immature posters.
Ya I agree that the league is good. but as I said in that forum, if your son has the chance for Alaska GO FOR IT!! Send me a PM if you wish to discuss things further
