cud...Trhit has alot more experience than me with showcase environments and college contacts so I agree with his statement. However, I personally feel when everyone is hitting with wood it takes all the guessing out of the equation...you can hit or you can't. I have seen many, many hitters get away with bad at bats only to get a hit or even extra bases due to aluminum. I will take it as far to say that the hitter has a very definite advantage with aluminum and visa-versa with wood.

Good question.

My 03 did the Sunshine Showcase 2 years ago and my 06 will be there this year. Very well run. First day they'll run 60, field, and take BP; some teams may get a game or two in. If I recall correctly, teams play approximately 4 games. Pitchers will get 2-3 innings tops.

My amateur observations:

(1)Pitchers need to heat it up early as the guns don't stay out too long. Velocity is the most important thing in getting noticed as a pitcher. Other aspects matter, but the speed is number one.

(2) BP is very important. Despite advice kids may be given to swing at almost anything in BP, smarter hitters laid off of pitches they couldn't do anything with.

(3) Assume someone is watching at all times; they likely are. Hustle to the max, whether it's shagging balls, fielding, or even picking up balls- a player needs to get noticed.

(4) Don't expect the scouts to talk to the players-they can't and they normally don't.

(5) Players should get a haircut and forget the jewelry. Wear the uniforms as they should be worn and forget the "straight bill" cap, or the crooked cap Long Beach State look.

(6) a little pre-showcase work on starting a sprint might be helpful. I saw a lot of fast kids get poor starts, and the time is whats written down. Learning how to get off quickly can really help a 60 time.

Hope this helps. TRHit and Perfect Game know a whole lot more about this stuff as it's what they do.

Cud:

PG will publish a schedule well in advance. My son attended last year. They did the 60, BP, IF/OF throws followed by one game on Saturday. Played two on Sunday. Pitchers throw about three innings each.

I think Hokie's comments about pitchers-be ready to throw the heat right at the start as the guns don't stay out long-is right on from what I saw, as are his other observations.
