In case you never heard Pujols was name NLCS MVP. But why? I know he was good, but I thought Carlos Beltran did way better, broke a playoff record and tied Bonds' for home runs in half as many games as Bonds, hit everything solid, took walks, stole bases, made a nice catch going up the hill in Houston, and made a nice diving catch too, did everything. I don't think Pujols even tied any records, though I'm not sure on that, and he did make a few nice pickups at 1B as does every firstbaseman. But I think Beltran was way better both offensively and defensively. So why does Pujols get it? Because he was on the winning team?
Beltran should get it, or Tevarez should for throwing a tantrum better than the way he threw his sinkers, before he even reached the dugout so every could see him.

Underground:

I think the MVP has traditionally been picked off the winning team. Right or wrong that is the way it is usally done.

Pujols batted 500 for the series and was on the winning team.

Beltran was very impressive and had me worried every time he came to the plate. What a great ball player for the Houston Astros. He had a heck of a season. I feel sorry for the players like Bagwell and Bigio who have been there forever and came so close to going to there first world series.

Go Redbirds!

Underground, I only remember one great diving catch made by Beltran although I didn't see every minute of every game due to kid's games. If you'll recall, Pujos made a diving stop on a ball down the line, picked that ball up and made the throw falling backwards. It was a fantastic play. Also, you show your bias when you state that Pujos, "did make a few nice pickups at 1B as does every firstbaseman." Thus attempting to suggest that what he did really wasn't out of the ordinary.

In my opinion, some of the stats posted earlier by DaddyBo demonstrate why Pujos was a viable candidate.

Clearly Beltran had an absolutely great playoffs. But usually the playoff MVP goes to a member of the winning team, and Pujols had a super playoff also, and the Cards won. Gotta agree that Beltran will be a Yankee next year, doesn't bode well for Bernie Williams. At best, Williams will be DH, and if he can't accept that role, he will be gone. I see Giambi gone too, maybe Delgado will come in and play first base. Ugh...
