I had a parent of a kid I worked with that felt exactly the same way as you. A state school I'll not name here made this kid a ridiculous offer (rumor is that it is one of the largest they have ever offered) before ever seeing him in person or meeting him and his family. Scouting report on the kid was very strong, some even calling him the best at his position in the state, but that is besides the point. The boys mother was beyond offended. Long story short, he will not be attending that school. She wanted him somewhere that wanted him for who he was, not just one part of him.

Sounds like we have some very similar philosophies.

If it was your son would you take a deal from a coach who made the decision based on the video alone ?--
I know I would nopt qant my son with a coach who had not met him NOR had my son met the coach
I am talking as a parent here not a coach even though I would advise my players the same as if they we my own son.
I like how you use the term "rumor"---that tells me that,in fact, you have no idea what the offer was.

I'm with you 100 percent. I would never advise any kid I worked with or my own child to accept an offer from someone they have never met.
In response to my term of "rumor"... when dealing with financials and scholarships, that is personal info that some parents tend to keep to themselves. That being said, I'm a trusted part of their circle and know exactly what their sons scholarship offer was. The part that was the "rumor" is whether or not it was in fact the largest scholarship that the school in question had ever offered.

Not sure you wouldn't take an offer from a coach that hadn't seen your son.
All of the offers we got were sight unseen. One D11 said it was the largest ever offered. No way of verifying that. TR you probably know the coach.
There were some as I have mentioned, that wanted to see him in person. They were Florida JCs. Miami U responded with a camp invite. So yes some wanted to see him in person but they all liked they video .
My point is that they look at videos and emails.
Our offer was a large one and was increased by a couple grand after the JR fall session plus a job the last 3 years. Overall a great experience and a degree in business. No debt like most ofr his teammates.

PIS,
I think we have a common baseball friend that has the last name of McGuire who played at Bill & Mary, I mean William & Mary.
He's currently in the Roanoke/Rocky Mount area.

Daughter made email contacts and provided recruitment brochure, link to high school stats at the St.Louis Post Dispatch so coaches could follow her, ... Then, with the advice of a good friend who is a D-II coach, had her video put up on YouTube.
The YouTube video resulted in a lot of interest. In fact, she was offered off of that video by two D-I programs BUT also with a recommendation of a close friend who is an assistant at the D-I level at one of the top programs in the nation. This gentleman made contacts with programs where he thought my child could go in and play at the D-I level and then, gave the coaching staff at those schools the url to the YouTube video.
It is too long but if anyone wants to see it, send me a pm and I'll provide the link. I don't want to distract from this thread by posting it here.

Putting together videos is a great idea.
If you put yourself in the coach's shoes, he doesn't have a great amount of time or budget to recruit in areas from from where they are. Putting together a video can help out a lot.
I agree the video should be short and sweet - 5 min tops.
