Fair point Sportsfan, It seems that some posters have an inside track to what is happening, hopefully for W&M it all works out. I do not have a vested interest here but am interested in the outcome and feel for the current players and incoming Freshman. The recruiting process for the 05's probably was exhausting and they were most likely elated to be going to such a great school and a good baseball program. The uncertainity has to be unnerving to all involved

Where were you last year when ODU waited to select Meyers?
Doesn't seem to me that SportsFan's comment was that big a deal. I thought ODU acted pretty quickly last year, so I looked it up on their web-site; May 28 "Guzzo's Contract not Renewed," July 19 "Meyers Named Coach." W&M players and parents knew Coach Farr was not coming back at the beginning of May, and some parents met shortly thereafter with the AD, so the administration also knew. As has also been pointed out, Coach Farr's resignation was not official until June 30. I guess it's still a matter of opinion, and maybe perception, if either situation took too long.

Is it any secret that a highly academic school like W&M might put other things first?[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't think that a highly successful academic school would need to put other things first,,,thats why it is successful. It's not like they are saying Ohhhh we need to hire a Professor of History and a Baseball Coach, lets hire the Professor and than move on to the Coach.

Just to add fuel to the fire...I wonder why posters are making excuses for W&M. Official visits should be starting soon, contact with recruits should be happening, not to mention Fall Practice, camps etc. I just think its a shame that the program might take a step backward while it regroups.

I think the concerns are valid and should be voiced. I hope W&M blows away everybody with their choice. I hope they announce a greater commitment and funding of scholarships.

For those who want comfort regarding the choice let me say this:

I have known Coach Leoni for a number of years

He is one of the finest Gentlemen I have come to know--he is also one heck of a coach--just look at his record at URI

For those of you concerned about where W& M is headed---you are in good hands !!!

I worked there three years ago and they do not have that many scholarships. I have been great friends with their coaching staff for a long time. As much as you know, you must be coach Farr?

OK VaDad and VA,

No fighting. 6.5 or 4.5 Can we agree that it is less than 11.7 and that it would be great if it was funded greater than it is.
novice dad,

It is obvious from va's post where his loyalties lie. I quoted where i got my info from. Va is spreading disinformation in an attempt to discredit William & Mary and make the previous staff look better than their record. Additionally 2 more scholarships have an impact on a program's ability to attract recruits.

While I am sure that recruits do not make choices only on what they read here, it is unfortunate that va wants to do what he can to lessen the perception of the school's program.

The success record in the pros of the former players from program is good and seems to indicate that the program should have done better under va and the former staff. It is time for new blood and new ideas in the William & Mary coaching staff.

Who transfered and to where? Is Chad Murray going to go back, that was a great sign, I am from Colorado and he was heavily recruited by some big name schools. Just Curious if anyone knew.

It just so happens I do know where Chad Murray ended up, and it was not back to W&M. He had a 90% scholarship offer from another div 1 school. But could not get a release... No Matter What. That includes talking to the assistant to the president of the school. If your recruiting coaches leave, you should be aloud to leave also... Chad is now attending Dixie State College, all expenses paid, because he could not get his release. Chad has had several prominent Div.1 Schools contact him for next year.
You are right TR if I'm a position player I would like that. If I'm a pitcher or a parent of a pitcher it could get a little interesting. 2 of the 10 pitchers listed are also listed as outfielders.

I'm just wondering if it was by design or circumstances with recruiting and coaching changes.
Actually just looked at 2006 Media guide and it talks about losing a number of players from last year. I like the quotes and Q&A with the coach
